2.7 PERFORMANCE HELP

I just got me 2011 4-bang auto sr5 and need advice on how to give it some balls..or at least 1. I'm not going to supercharge it cuz i rely on my truck and need to think about the future of my engine so I'm looking into exhausts, headers, catalytic converters, intakes and other such things for performance improvement but I live in California so I have to incorporate all the gay air regulation laws into the equation with smog and that B.S. PS I'm a 19 yr old college student so prices do matter but i'll drop some cash on some good stuff if necessary but I'm also not too familiar to this subject matter so thorough explanations are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

 

Headers will give you the best bang for your buck...but the 2.7 is a solid, economical motor. If you want a lot of performance, you bought the wrong motor.

There's not many options for more power other than a Blower! CAIs and Headers are expensive and the "power gains" aren't sufficient enough to warrant spending that kinda money....take the truck back and getta v6 if this is gonna be that big of an issue

 

Im no way taking my truck back, I love this thing. Just summers coming up and im not taking any classes so i can finally enjoy my truck I was just looking at something to keep me occupied. Even though its a 4 bang theres so much stuff i wanna do to it that I'll end up graduating and trading my truck in for a new double cab 4x4 before I finish with this one. Also its costing me about 75 bux a tank to fill up which i do 3 times a month so the v6 would leave me in the red and i would have to start recycling cans and eating taco bell everyday just to afford driving it so I'll definately stick with 160HP go-kart engine

actually, there aren't really any options that include a blower, unless you want to go with the alpine unit that really isn't made for a tacoma

and i do agree with you on the bs part. the difference between the auto and manual 4 cyls isn't that big, esp due to the efficiencies modern automatics have (remember we drive toyotas, not dodges), as well as the differences in final drive ratio that pretty much close the gap between the two.
