You guys think I could drill another hole in the leaf spring perch to move the axle back the 1/2" and fill the other with weld? I don't want any extra lift and I think the 3/8" plate that the relocation plate is made out of would stop it from rubbing by pushing the axle down that much without even needing to move the axle back. So I'd basically wouldn't be able to stuff as much and that's not what I want otherwise I'd just put something under the bump stop to raise it.

I'm going to take a better look at my fender tomorrow and see what I can do about that. The part where it rubs is right where a screw goes in so I'll have to figure something out.

I find it hard to believe that I can only find one other person on this forum with the same rub in the rear. I wonder if it's the tolerances of manufacturing and I got unlucky.

i'd say either drill and fill the hole, or even cut off the current purches and weld on new ones with only one hole drilled precisely where you want it.
i know the trailer supply shop near me (when i'm in melbourne) makes their own perches, and can make them to any spec you want. so you could get a set drilled like you want, and even have it made of a thicker metal, since stronger never hurts. you will have to modift the bump stop regardless though, because it will no longer line of with the strike plate on the frame if you just bolt it right back on.

 

Seriously though, then I have to worry about pinion angle and I think that way would require a lot more work. I think there is enough room on the strike pad. The bump could even be moved a bit with the way it just gets pinched under the u bolts. If it were a problem I'd just unbend the part that sort of wraps up around the u bolts and move it where necessary. We are only talking about 1/2" here. Plus I can say I have a stretched wheelbase.

that's true, you're moving it such a small amount that it's probably best to keep is simple.

 

You guys have lost me if its only rubbing just barely move the bump stops up a 1/4 inch or something that's not much of lost flex you will have

 

1/4" could be the difference

 

actually, that reminds me, if anyone wants more flex, i have some 3'' shock extenders. $15 shipped

i was thinking about using them, but they really need to be used with a stock length shock, or even with a 5100.

oh, speaking of which, i think i'm ging to get either a plasma cutter, or more likely, an oxy-acetylene setup......i'm tired up burning through crinding wheels and sawzall blades making slopy cuts. going big this time. especially when it comes time later in the summer to make skids

also, it's a lot easier to carry two small tanks and some hardware while wheeling to make repairs instead of a huge power inverter and my welder.

 

Oxygen acetaline or however you spell it. If you get good at it you can make Damn good cuts. Get a piece of thicker steel than what your cutting like 1/2 inch and use that as a straight edge and cut along that it works pretty Dang well for the straight lines

Just got back Wed late afternoon from another road trip up around West by golly Virginia. 2328 miles, did the Dragon, some Blue Ridge Parkway and everything in between. Awesome ride. I need to figure how I can stay on the road.

My Taco sat in the driveway waiting on me to return. Felt great to get back in it yesterday.
