Just back from the dealership. All new driveline from the transfer case back, including the carrier bearing. The vibration still exists but just ever so slightly, and probably more so because I'm trying to feel it. In other words, it helped quite a bit. I noticed on the new bracket that holds the carrier bearing there is an arrow stamped in the metal that points forward. I don't remember this being on the old one.

Dropped my truck off early yesterday. The plan was to pull a rear differential from a vehicle they had in stock there, put it on my truck and see if the vibration goes away.

Well I think one (or both) of my front wheel bearings completely phuked. Bad vibe on turns.
Well thats unexpected. Since I could not find Land Crusier front to make a swap I have to go with factory crap.. :( Ordered my Koyo bearings and the rest of the parts out of dealer. So this weekend should swap those pesky bearings. Total cost in parts around $600 for both sides. Now I am gonna do Grrrr

    My vibration is gone!

After replacing everything from the transmission back to the rear end (today), the vibration is gone. Although, I still don't have a definite answer as to what it was, my theory still holds on to the pinion bearing.

They replaced my rear end today with that of a rear end from a brand new 2011 Tacoma TRD. Why....you got me....but it's gone.

Well, my drive back from the dealership was around 100 miles, I've done a few miles of off-roading using 4 wheel drive, and a couple of 30 mile round trip excursions to the post office. Still feels smooth. In fact, I don't notice the vibration at all anymore. The real test will be coming up soon. I'm taking an 1800 mile road trip that will involve all of the types of driving that the truck normally sees including freeway, city, mountain passes, and forestry roads. Once I'm back from that I'll post an update.

I just realized that when they put the new rear end in, they also put stock leaf springs back on, so the TSB 4 leaf springs are gone. I emailed them about it and haven't heard back....

I told myself I wasn't going to post in this thread again. But here we go. Some people probably don't even notice this vibration. And I have never experienced it in a 6 speed truck. If my truck were new I would be pissed about it. But mine's got 125k on it. Now that I know that pretty much all of them with automatics do it I'm not concerned. I don't have the TSB leaves in mine and it does it. But it's minor. When I bought my last 05 it never went to the dealer for anything. It waited until after the warranty ran out before it started to fall apart. And a few of the things my last one needed I had to do on my "new" 05 when I bought it. But that's also why I got it so cheap.

And his solution of flipping the carrier bearing, I noticed that on my new driveline and carrier bearing, arrows were stamped into the support bracket pointing forward. I don't remember them being on the old one, but it may have been slightly caked with dirt/mud. Is anyone with the vibration willing to crawl under the truck to look and see if they have the arrows?

2010 4WD DC SB TRD Sport. It did it bone stock starting at about 1000 miles, and is doing it now at 20K miles. Just got the rear leaf TSB installed, and still does it. The rear leaf replacement changed the vibration, but it's still there. Sometimes hardly noticeable, other times strong enough to fuzz the mirrors. Dealer doesn't acknowledge that it's a problem (yet). After looking at the angle that the front U-joint runs, I really suspect that it's a big part of the problem. I plan to remove the drive shaft and drive it around in 4WD to see if the vibration goes away. I also suspect that a one-piece drive shaft with u-joint angles properly set might do the trick. Anyway - thanks for the thread. On one hand, it's good to know that I'm not the only one experiencing the problem. On the other hand, it's disturbing to know that I'm not the only one experiencing the problem. ;-)

This might be worth checking out. After reading other toyota forums it seems other toyota brands are having a very similar problem of steering wheel flutter at highway speeds but they have a TSB to fix it. See what you guys think.

This is an old tacoma TSB ST004-06 for steering wheel flutter. Link to TSB Forum 4runner TSB ST001-05 Steering
