Looks great... My only concern is what does that rack weigh in at? I know the one I've done for my truck is a much simpler design and it's still somewhere around 40-50 lbs. without the tent. Just curious.

Also have you boxed or plated your frame?? If not I would recommend that ASAP.

^^^ Would something like this have a larger effect on the frame, requiring the need to box it?!

Not so much on the 2nd gen Tacomas.. But the 1st gen Tacoma's are notorious for having a very weak rear frame section. Even just adding a HD bumper and doing a good bit of wheeling can start to stress and bend them.

The rack (in its current state) and the tent, weigh in around 200lbs combined. While that's quite a bit of weight, it's not being placed right at the end of the frame, like a heavy bumper would do.
Don't get me wrong, plating the frame is on my to-do list before I build a rear bumper. With a rack and tent alone, and the weight being evenly distributed along the bed, I don't forsee frame bending becoming an issue.

Thanks! I'll keep updating this thread as I make progress. Got a lot of stuff planned, just need to make some time.

Good deal. I'd say as long as you avoid any heavy wheeling you should be fine for right now. Would just hate to see the frame get messed up on such a nice truck!

Nice rack. I am hoping to redo mine this summer but it isn't at the top of the list unfortunately. I would like to keep mine about roof height though. My current rack just has posts going to the bed floor.

I got my RTT (a little different model though) from Toyota Of Dallas too. Great service!!!

Blackwidow2009, I'd be very interested in purchasing your plans if that's an option. That is an awesome design, esp considering the cargo capability. Nice work.

PM me if you want to.
