got some questions

Hello TacomaWorld. I'm new to this site. I was referred here by a friend and had some questions so here i am. I own a 2009 TRD OFF ROAD Extended cab. I have done some off road and already ripped of a mud flap and almost tore off my rear driver side quarter panel trim. I'm just looking to add some Clearance with a lift and bigger tires. I don't want a monster rock crawler, but don't want to get stuck when I'm trying to get to that sweet fishing spot. What type of lift would be recommended and what size tires to go with it. I am also looking at the financial end of it and was wondering if any body knows if i could add the price of the work into my current financing with the dealership. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated since i am going home on R&R in a couple days and would be able to get the work in motion. Thanks

 

I say go with a 3" lift but there are a lot of options for you and it really just depends on how deep your pockets are? Try to avoid spacer lifts though.

 

i was thinking 3in, and people have been telling me to go with suspension lift. one of my main concerns is if there is anything about it that could void my warranty, or if there is a recomended type of lift by toyota. and for my pockets im assuming you mean my wells? i havnt modded anything accept for my sound system.

 

No, he meant how deep your pockets are as in how much do you want to spend. You could spend as little as a few hundred all the way up to a couple thousand on a 3" lift. A lift won't void your warranty but if the lift causes something to fail, or part of the lift fails, Toyota won't cover it. But, Toyota technically has to prove that the lift caused one of their OEM parts to fail before they turn you down for warranty work. It can create a headache in the future. Toyota is not in the business of aftermarket lifts so they wouldn't recommend a lift and I doubt you could roll it into your financing.

 

Gotcha on the pockets. and thanks for the info. I really wasnt thinking that they would refinance it into my loan but one can wish right.

 

3in suspension lift wont void any warranties from what i understand. but once yuo start doing stuff like body lifts where you have to extend the steering shaft or a drop bracket lift then youll run into trouble with the dealerships.

 

Check out Toytec's website. It will give you an idea of what you can buy a full lift kit for and also some of your options. The Toytec Ultimate Lift Kit is a good reference point to start, I think it runs around $1,100. There are less expensive and more expensive options but you can search around their site and find some stuff in your price range and then ask us about stuff you find.

Yep, those are two options. There are others of course, but like some one else already stated, this can get you started.

 

From what we have seen, warranty work varies from dealership to dealership. Most of the time most dealers will warranty lifts. In fact, we have quite a few dealerships that install our lifts and fully warranty everything off the lot.

Good advice from everyone so far but just remember that if you do go with a suspension lift, you will be spending some good amounts of money. Since you are looking at a 3" lift, you are also going to want to look into getting some aftermarket upper control arms.

also quick question.... would it be recomended to purchase second hand lifts from say craigslist or ebay?

 

I wouldn't.... god only knows what they put the components through


IMO its best to start with a new clean slate with suspension stuff
