I was able to get the front flares on today after mowing the lawn and cleaning the garage up. I still have some things on them to finish up I plan to put the wheel skirts back in and put some more glue on one of the weatherstrips as well. It is going to be a while till I can get the rear fenders cut so the truck looks a little goofy but at least this project is closer to being finished. Big thanks to Lawrence aka "Lolo" for finishing these things they look great and are really sturdy.

So my fenders were a little rusty from when I cut them last fall here is a link to that post. http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-builds/114291-n0rths-tacoma-build-5.html#post2406252
So I started out hitting the fenders with the grinder and a wore out flapper wheel.

Cleaned them with acetone and sprayed them duplicote self etching primer.

While they dried I went ahead and put the clips in the fender flares.

A shot of the boxes with part numbers if anyone needs them for the moulding clips.

Picture that hangs in the garage, who can name the artist? (sorry there are no prizes if you get it right)

So the next step was to snap them into place which was real easy and everything lined right up. What is a little tricky is running the weather stripping and to glue it into place, I used super glue and ran out so I need to get more I did not get any pictures of this step.

Here are some pics of the front flares on the truck. There are more pics in my gallery.

Thanks again to all the folks who have helped out with the flares.

Thanks for all the comments, My buddy Lolo is willing to do more sets of flares but has a regular job as well. He will let me know when he can do another set and a price as he is still figuring out how much time it takes since mine were in the "process" when I sent them to him.

I finished up the rear flares today, It was time consuming figuring out the bedside supports but pretty straight forward once beyond that point as it is the same procedure as cutting the front fenders. I started out putting the rear of the truck on jack stands and removed the tires, fender skirts and large bed support leave the front lower bed support in place (I don't have a rear support since my bedsides are cut for a high clearance bumper) you need these supports to make the cuts in the fender otherwise it will flop around.

Large bedside support, I used this to make the new bedside supports.

My trusty 2" fender tracing tool, This takes the guess work out of free handing the line and keeping the original shape of the fender.

You can see the line in brown sharpie that the tool makes then I looked at the flare and where the bedside support need to be to determine which pieces go and which pieces stay.

Here are the tabs I left utilizing the original holes on the fender and bed itself to brace the bedside.

Then I cut the large brace down to make smaller braces for the fender/bedside.

And here it is all braced up seems to be very sturdy and uses original pre- existing holes.

After I installed the clips on the fender flares and snapped them into place. I drilled the folded tabs (through the existing holes in the flare) with a bit smaller than the original self tapping course thread screws and reused those to secure the flare. While I was there I went ahead and repainted the ends of the CBI wrap around bumper that had been cut in preparation for the shorter flares.

(proof that I'm not a total hack and use a torque wrench sometimes)

Now for the pics after I rolled it out of the garage.....

    Looks great n0rth.

I just fit 35's on my tacoma and in process of finishing the clearance. I am going to use glass fenders in the front - but I would love to have my rear fender flares done up like yours - can you PM the information on who can do this for me?

    Thanks!

I find the rear quarter panels on mine flutter on the freeway so I ran a line from them to the frame until I can figure something else out. I like the way you set up those upper brackets too mine aren't quite so nice but they work.

Not quite 37's but a Q78-16 (35.5X10.5r16) problem is I only have one until Super Swamper gets there shit together and makes another production run of these bad boys or a SSR in a 35X10.5. I call them every few weeks to check if they have a production date. Although they do assure me that they have not been discontinued but do not have a production date at this time.

    Q-78 vs 315-75r16

Thanks, It has been a great product and will look awesome on Timberland mica keep us posted when you get it.

You had asked me about my alignment numbers earlier in this thread and I posted them today on TTORA. I am not sure where I came up with +1 some days I swear i'm losing my mind. Here are my alignment #'s Cross Camber 0.8, Cross Caster 0.0 Caster=1.6 Front left /1.6 Front right Total Toe 0.01 I had it aligned yesterday so they are current.

Here are some shots of the other braces I made the rear out of some scrap after doing some dumpster diving and re-used the front supports. With all the supports in place the bed sides are solid and I'm not getting any flapping in the wind.

This is the first time I have ever lived this close to other people it is a big change for me but I'm enjoying not having to drive 45 minutes when I forget something or need to go to napa for parts.

    Incorrect.....and I hate hippies:eek:

Very nice, you are correct sir +1 for you:D

Your truck just keeps getting better and the glass will look awesome. As soon as I here back from my bud I will PM you. I have followed your crawler install on RST that thing is so bad ass I can't wait to get mine.

Thanks, Its something different than black not that black is bad it just seems that everybody has it.

Thanks Lurry,As soon as I know more I'll let you know and don't worry some flexing and wheeling shots are coming soon. I just met some new folks to wheel with in the neighborhood.
