Been shopping around for PU, Tacoma, or 4runner and figured I'd join this place. Yall seem pretty cool, so hello from Texas. I do have one question though, Ive found a 96 4wd with 270K miles for 2500 that I trying to go look at today. Was wondering with that many miles, can I expect it to run much longer. I have seen 4 cyl's last upwards to 400k well taken care of. But not sure what to expect to see or even look for what could be problem areas as I have never a toyota of any model before. But I am excited to change that in the near future, hopefully next couple of days. Thanks guys

Welcome to TW. Man I wouldn't pay that price for a 96 with that many miles. If taken care of I don't see why it wouldn't run forever, but that is high mileage for buying second hand. Its not like owning a truck with 300k miles and knowing it.

Welcome Texas from Atlanta. I gotta say I wouldn't buy a vehicle with that many miles on it, even though that's about what you could expect to pay for a 96 with 270k. If that's all the money you'll have for a while and 1) you can work on it yourself, or 2) you know someone who knows these trucks who will treat you right, I say why not? I would start with an offer of $2000, and if the truck is in "really" nice shape, as much as $2300, but that would be it. Good luck and let us know what you do!

Nice, thanks for the input, kinda my thoughts on the subject, thinking of trying to get him down to 1800 to 2000 for the milage. Now I feel a lil outa place, my budget is about $3000 and thats the only "tacoma" ive found for that price. Lots of PU's and 4runners. But no good forums on those. Yall mind if a 94 and older owner joins if thats all I can buy? I would still own one in my head, dreams can come true. haha.

This is kinda a graduation gift to myself, wanted the ever dependable toyota.

Doing real good, see your in Dallas, I'm in Grand Prairie. Moved here cause I enrolled in Lincoln Tech. Living right accross the street from school. Tomorrow is my last day. Did the diesel program. Need a truck so I can get out in the world of all work and no play make jack a dull guy.

And to the guy who said go for it if I have someone to help me work on it. My best friend just got laid off from Circuit City, lost his job after three years, knows more about cars and trucks than anyone I know. Sad he lost his job, but he can help me with anything I can't do now that he has alot of free time on his hands

The truck's worth $2000 all day long even with the high miles. Offer him 2k and see what he says!
