Audio Noob tryin to decide on new system.

I honestly know very little about car audio, but the stock speakers in my 06 double cab are just not what I want. I plan on building a basic system. I don't need tailgate rattling bass, or competition sound, just something that sounds better. The down side is I only have about $1,000 to spend. I already have a head unit, but other then that anyone got any suggestions?

Seems like alot of guys on here like JL Audio. I went ahead and purchased this set up:

JL Audio VR650- CXi
JL Audio XR650-Csi
JL Audio 13TW5 subwoofer
JL Audio 300/4
JL Audio 500/1v2

HU is a Kenwood DNX9960 but you've already got your HU. If you don't care much about the bass, I'd just go with the 650 speakers and get the 300/4 amp. You can find this stuff used on Ebay. Just have to be careful who you purchase from. I got my speakers and 300/4 for $400 total. The 500/1v2 is a little more and the 13TW5 is expensive and then you'll need to have Marv or someone build you a box.

If you've got the headunit already though, I'd recommend going to JL Audio's site, look under the speakers at discontinued, find a set that suits your needs then look on Ebay, Craigslist or here for a guy selling a set that isn't damaged. Install yourself and you'll be good to go.

Oh but you can. Not everything JL makes is awesome or right for your system depending on what you are trying to do.

 

I think the self proclaimed "auido noob" would be fine going with JL. ^I'm sure the stuff listed above would sound great.
