Your welcome. Like I said in the first post I was inspired by another post on here, that's what makes TW so great! We work together to improve our rides. How/where did you mount your input?

 

I wish I had this mod a couple of years ago! I actually grabbed an Axxess Metra TY02 adapter and went that route. I would have rather done this mod though!

Hadn't had the time to get back into it... Work sucks! Though I think it my be something to do with it charging? I unhooked the charger and its silent..

 

Hmm... Weird. I've never heard of a charger affecting the sound quality

 

It's fairly common getting alternator noise or ignition noise with poorly setup stereos and amps.

This weekend I added a disconnect to the aux input wire. It still sounds sharp as ever. I also got a sweet deal on a isimple iPhone adapter which I installed at the same time. I can not tell a difference in sound quality. I only got the isimple gateway because it was less than $10 (ebay/used) and it charges my iphone.

Do you notice the static all the time or is it hit and miss? You might want to check your ground connection.

 

Yea I'll still get back in there at some point.
The charger (12v to USB adapter) i'm using was like 50 cent from a china warehouse that took 3 weeks to get here. It charges fine, but might be introducing other issues.

 

Thanks for sweet how to with pictures, now I just have to figure out where I want to install the jack. Pretty sweet having the 09 aux port, wish my 06 had that.

First of all I am no longer a soldering virgin after this mod. It's tight in there. Took a while but I got solid solders, I used the same postions as Sandman614, I thought it was a bit easier too.

I did notice when my blackbery is between songs or I'm listening to comedy and no one is talking I do get a little of the CD through. But I have not soldered the audio input jack yet. I ran my wires underneath the stick shift housing and am going to leave the audio port underneath the cup holders. I just connected the cable to the jack and slid it the wire underneath the housing on the drivers side.

I am also going to burn a cd of silence just in case after soldering I still get a little bleed through.

I use an iphone but when I hit stop or skip between songs etc, I only hear silence. As soon as I unplug the aux jack from my iphone I hear the CD. The sound from the CD is controlled by the physical connection between the aux jack & my iphone and not necessarily what is playing through it. At least that is what I am experiencing.

Perhaps it has to do with the location where you soldered to the CD player, but I can't see why that would matter.

 

The operation is the same except the "static" or "bleed through" of the CD on low volume or stopped music player.

The solder locations we used are better than the 'labeled' locations because the 'labeled' locations are on the "floating" part of the drive (in our decks). They are on the same wire so that would not be a problem, as you assume.

Are you charging your blackberry at the same time?
This is when I hear the static or bleed through, only. When not charging it's crystal.

I'm wondering if it could be our grounds, could you take a picture of where you grounded your?

 

Another thing you could try is add a

$14 PAC SNI-1/3.5 3.5-mm Ground Loop Noise Isolator Works with iPod/Zune/iRiver and Others , Black

PAC SNI-1/3.5 Noise Filter to the input wires. billyjoe has a good write up on retrofitting a 2009+ radio in a 2005-2008 tacomas. His Text file (attached to post) has a wiring schematic which included modifying the OEM 2009+ Aux jack and adding a SNI-1/3.5 Noise Filter. I am pretty sure you can pick them up at radio shack.

The noise filter comes with the mini 3.5mm jack ends and looks like this. Just install it between the your Blackberry and the aux jack and see it that removes the static from the charger.



If that fixes your problem you probably would like to hard wire it to your aux input and conceal it under your dash or what not. In that case, just cut the ends off and follow billyjoe's instructions on wiring it to the left, right, and ground wires of your aux jack as shown in the picture bellow taken from the text file attached to his post. Pay attention to the wire colors of the noise filter.

Just ignore the R3-XX callouts, they are the pins which connect to the back of the head unit (OEM 2009+ Radios). In case you are wondering, I already tried to wire a 2009+ OEM Aux input in my 2005 head unit like he suggested in his post but it only works for 2009+ unit. I thought if I had the OEM aux input jack that maybe it would work on 2005-2008 head units but it doesn't which is why I started this thread in the first place.

Let me know if you try the noise filter and it works, I will add it to the OP.

 

I'm not charging my blackberry and I grounded to back of the radio housing simular to where yours is grounded. (Sorry no picture) If I move it and the bleed goes away I'll let you know.

I thought maybe it was my lack of soldering experience. Because that's the first time I ever soldered.

I rarely put CD's in to play, so I just burned a cd with two 32minute tracks of pure silence. My blackberry and MP3 player both sound great with the silence CD in so I'm alright with it unitl I get bored and move the ground.
