cb entenna

hey guys, i'm planning on buying a cb, but now i need an antenna.
i dont want to drill a hole in my roof, i hear that is what is needed for the willson. i have a cap on my truck so mounting off the bed rails is no longer an option either. i'm not needing something i can talk to japan on, but something to talk and listen to road conditions/ traffic/ police. maybe 10 mi. or so?

what do you think?

 

There are hood mounts that you can use.

I know there is a vender on TW who sells a mount that sticks out behind the tailgate so you can mount you antenna there, and it attaches to the bolts on the side of the bed. Can't recall who though.

 

If you mount it off the rear taillight (or anywhere behind the cab), you probably ought to go with a NGP Firestick.

 

Magnet mount is out of the question?
On a previous truck I had one, and I put a thin piece of felt-like material under it to protect from scratches. The magnet was crazy strong, never budged.

 

im just fine with the mag mount, i just dont want to drill a hole thru the roof like some of them require like the wilson

 

If you pull out the headliner in the back, you can access the 3rd brake light and route it through there.

Mag mount for sure. I have it on my truck for my Icom race radio... works great! only way you can knock it over is hit a tree branch extremely low at 20+mph

 

Wilson mag mount, then its easy to remove for the bulk of the time you dont need it.

 

i have a wilson magnet mount. I dont use it all the time. So it's easy to take off and on. I just run the cable threw the top of the access cab door. Works fine.

 

I have an Extang Solid Fold tonnau cover and didnt want to have to a.) drill more holes than I needed to in my truck, b.) cut my tonnau cover so I fabricated my own bed-rail bolt-on mount using 1/8th" steel....Worked well....I can document in more detail (pics-n-such) later if you're interested....Here's the one pic I have now:

 

I just put one of these on my truck. Seems to work just fine. Went to a local shop to get it tuned, and it was darn near perfect, right out of the box. I'm pretty happy with it.

I used a Radio Shack "through the glass" antenna before...1. reduced performance - you'll get much less range with them 2. You'll notice a slight whistle at higher speeds....

 

i for some reason was thinking that you had to drill a hole in the roof for the wire from the willson antenna to come thru ( thought the wire came out from the bottom where the magnet is) but if that is not so, and it comes out of the side , then a willson i will go!

 

Yea the coax comes out the side of the base.

 

you cant just say "wilson" thats like saying "toyota"

the wilson "lil will" is the magnet mount. no drilling or any other permanent modifications required.

the wilson 1000 (which i have) is the one that requires a 3/4" hole to be drilled in the roof. for me it was the best option available and its solid. i've wheeled with people who have the lil will and it falls off. mine cant!

 

Yea but why would you buy a 1000 watt antenna for a 10 watt radio

 

I does come in handy if you have some power behind it

 

I will never understand why people will risk fine and forfeiture to have a high-power, poor quality radio system, when they could spend a few hours studying for a test and do more, better, legally.

i bought it for the mounting ability. it fit my needs best out of all the antennas ive seen
