help with painting wheel

so i have the stock POS aluminum wheels that i got with my taco, and was wondering the tools i need for painting them. i know someone posted a thread before about them, but i believe they were for alloys. i want to paint mine black.

 

Cosign that- There are thread that talk about it-I know because I posted a so-so explanation of what I did.

There are metal prep primers if you are worried- but I with a good duplicolor primer and paint you'll be fine.

 

What about powdercoating them?
My friend just told me about a shop that does it for 45 a wheel. I know i dont live by you but im sure the prices are around the same.

 

well im stationed at camp pendleton, whereabouts is this place??

 

that seems pretty expensive then to just clean the while, prime it, then spray paint it

 

Yeah, i still have to get more info on the place.
I just dont know really how spray paint holds up. If it holds up the same as powdercoating i might just do that.

but those are alloy wheels..wouldnt it be different for aluminum??

 

I thought the alloy and aluminum wheels where the same.

Looking at your gallery, unless you've changed wheels those look like standard steel wheels in the pictures. Same as what I have on my taco.

If that is the case just clean them up, sand them a bit, prime them and paint them.

I personally would not have them powder coated. And especially not for $45 a wheel. My brothers and I own a paint manufacturing business, and powder has certain applications, but it's advantages are more about cost and production, not quality of the product. Powder is cheap and can be forced to cure extremely quick. If powder coat created a superior finish then your major auto makers would be using it. They're not, most all our cars still have liquid coatings on them.
