I've got a question, I'm a trial and error welder, I have a Hobart 140 welder and i cant even practice because the wire im using either unspools it self inside or it jams. First time it happened was because the tips i was using were .30 and I had .35 fluxcore wire (i don't have a bottle of gas yet.) but i changed it with some .30 fluxcore and its still unspooling, jamming, breaking. Any tips or problems to point out? Thanks.

Im a noob welder but it sounds like the spool is loose, my miller has a nut and spring to tighten down and hold it. (cant take pictures now im workin)

    Any other advise?

Agreed. There should be a tensioner spring/nut for the spool to prevent the unwinding/birdnest.

 yea :/ if i tighten it to where it doesnt spin, then the welder doesn't unspool it

You need to put the tensioner on the spool so it stays on. Then feed the wire through the wire feeder and set the tension on the wire so it feeds out at a consistent rate...some say if you put the torch tip on a non-conductive surface (at about 45 degrees) and pull the trigger, the wire feeds out and curls up in a perfect circle.

BTW, the wire feeder is what keeps the wire on the spool. Not the tension on the spool.

It's either to tight or your wire tension isn't tight enough to grip the wire and rotate the spool, I think. Try weldingtipsandtricks.com or youtube on how to set up the welder. Good luck
