    Thinking about buying a supercharger but not sure if I should install on my own or have Toyota do it. What do you guys think?

    If I do it myself, I will do a writeup on it :D

    How well do you know your way around an engine? If you know what you're doing, I'd save some money and install it yourself. If you don't have a clue, it's worth it to have a professional do the install. I believe Toyota has to reflash your ECU regardless.

    Have the dealer put it in, that way if anything goes wrong you bring it back to them, and ditto on the reflash, yes they have to do that

    You keep your powertrain warranty if Toyota installs it. No brainer to me, have them do it.

    Your under warrantee, I'd stick with the TRD setup, phone around to dealers, you can usually get a pretty decent price on an install too and then its all warranteed..

    I plan on doing my own install on mine

    The amount of HP is not worth the money especially if you are having Toyota install it. In my opinion you would be better off doing a 5.7 L Tundra engine swap.

    Thanks for your feedback guys! I know that I won’t have an extremely fast vehicle after the supercharger; I have my R1 for that. I’m coming off a yearlong deployment and happen to have the extra cash right now. Plus, it’s been awhile since I’ve done anything to my truck. =/

    If I do it myself, I know it will get done right and it would be a good father son bonding project. On the other hand, definitely don’t want to void any warranties and probably should cover my own ass by letting Toyota do it.

    I’m sure this thread will give me enough info when the time comes…

    depends on wether or not your still in waranty. i just picked up a 2011 dbl cab and had the dealer install the charger because of the waranty they only charged me 750.00 for install, could i have done it myself? yes is it worth saving 750.00 to get a headache if i ever have a warranty issue with the truck or losing the extra warranty on the charger hell no!!!

    You could get a SC 5.7 for $10k that puts out over 500hp or SC the 4.0 and get just over 300hp. I'd say thats worth it.
