Since this thread has been resurrected anyway, may I go slightly off topic and ask if diff drops are any more effective for 1st gens? I know practically nothing about 1st gens but am trying to give a 1st gen buddy some advice.

Good said! I used no money to get my truck, just my gun, and still take better care of it.

DR coilovers AAl 285 kelly safaris lightbar/skidplate need more!
why would they even start using these diff drops in the first place? I was never too sure and the 4x4 i have had it before i bought it so i left it but now i'll probably take it off. . i always wondered when i was under her why only the rear part had the spacer and just changed the angle i thought that was retarded. . .

I installed diff drops just because I assumed they were necessary at the same time I installed the lift. I didn't get to see it w/o the DD vs with. However, when I look at my CV boots. They are in fact touching. I'm thinking, "What?"

Now after reading most of the posts here, maybe I need to see the CV boot's angles w/o for a true comparison.

Has anyone here seen improvement of the CV angle after installing the DD? They must improve the angles on some trucks or they wouldn't be making the kit.

    Here ya go:

Diff Drop pros: CV angle isn't as extreme.

Diff Drop cons: Diff hangs lower so it's more likely to be damaged, since it's rotated the gear oil isn't doing its entire job, driveshaft angle is worse.

Would you rather replace an entire diff and U Joints ORRRRRR a cv shaft?

I actually took mine out before i saw this. In fact, it gave me more vibrations from initial roll. Now the only rattle vibration coming from my truck is from the glovebox. Don't know if there is a fix for that?

Welds should be stronger than that plate...

I agree diff drops don't do much but I still find it odd that the pocket ripped off along the welds.

Either way I can't believe I've never seen this thread. Ouch.

I have had my OME 3'' suspension lift for over a year with no issues, and did have to replace my front axle due to tearing my cv boot during my sway bar take off. It got me thinkin and decided to get the sway bar relocate and installed it. Axle fixed sway bar relocated, then I saw the diff drops and said shit! I forgot something a year ago when i bought my lift! but thank god I saw this thread, I was just about to go buy that DD kit. I haven't had any issues other than tearing the cv boot which was my fault so why mess with a good thing. I do not get any rattles or vibes from my lift, it drives smooth as silk, well if silk could drive. But thanks again for awesome threads and learning from others experiences!

WOW, was about to buy this kit, and now I am rethinking it, I thought diff drop kits were all good, and the way to preserve your CVs, but this is making me think again...
