Wise Me Up - Please

I'm wondering how you would use a Hi-Lift jack to jack up your lifted Taco (2010 TRD Sport DC LB) if your truck has Nfab steps, stock bumpers? I know they make a wheel lifting jig to get one wheel off the ground but what if you have a flat? Would I have to always have a jack stand in the truck? - sucks.

 

yeah unless you have sliders or quality aftermarket bumpers with built in recovery points you need a jack. they do make bumper attachment similar to the wheel lifting jig but not sure if anybody on here has used one.

 

Carry a jack stand, lift from tire, place jack stand, release hi list tension

 

For the rear, you can always get a receiver hitch shackle. Elite's shown:

 

Lifting off a receiver shackle is near impossible on the trail. The truck will lean on way or the other and the hi lift will slip out.

To answer the OP's question, the tire attachment is the only way to use a hi lift on the trail without sliders or steel bumpers. You'll need to carry a jack stand as well if you intend to change a tire.

You might be better off with an aluminum SUV jack on a sled.

 

Jacking in a shackle is sketchy at best, especially if you're on a not-perfectly-flat surface. You also get the joy of chocking the front tires.

The right answer to this problem is: Get sliders.

 

Thanks for the responses. Looking into the bumper jig. Would using the tow shackle on paved roads be ok, or same issue as off road? As for sliders, will bolt on sliders be effective for jackong or must I get welded?

Never work on a truck on a hi lift. It's fine to use the hi lift to jack the truck up, but set it down on jackstands immediately.
