Bystanders lift burning car to rescue injured motorcyclist in Logan

    BY ERIN ALBERTY

A motorcyclist who was dragged beneath a car Monday in Logan was rescued by bystanders who helped police lift the burning car and pull the man out from under the wreckage. He was reported to be in critical condition Monday night.

Brandon Wright was riding east on U.S. Highway 89 about 11:40 a.m., when a driver steered his BMW 530XI into the motorcycle’s path from a parking lot across the street from the Utah State University campus, said Assistant Logan Police Chief Jeff Curtis. The driver of the BMW did not see Wright, who laid down his bike and slid into the car.

The motorcycle and Wright were pulled under the car, where the motorcycle’s gas line was severed, causing the bike and the car to catch fire while he was trapped underneath, Curtis said.

Several bystanders rushed to the car and lifted it off Wright while officers and other witnesses pulled him out and moved him to safety.

Wright suffered broken bones, cuts and burns, Curtis said. The driver of the BMW was not injured but "was shaken up, obviously," he said.

Firefighters put out the flames shortly after the crash, Curtis said.

You can see the douche bag driver in the suit... he just stands around and doesn't even help to lift the car

Dude was in shock from just having an accident. Not everyone has grace under fire.

He is a BMW owner so he probably is a douche, but I like to give people the benefit of the doubt before I drop the rage of a thousand murderous gods of wraith.

    Well stated.

That guy is alive because of those people's actions. That makes my hair stand up. I just have a hard time believing anyone would do that for me.

The plan got as far as lifting up the car. No one was designated to get the guy out. You can see they get it up in the air and no one was even considering getting him out till that last construction guy ran in.

I think they were under the impression they were just going to flip that fucker straight over onto it's roof, but neglected to think how heavy a car, specifically a BMW is.

And reviewing the video the car doesn't go straight up, it keeps sliding. And remember, it's a bunch of bystanders, not trained emergency services. The fact that they banded together and managed to do what they did is in itself remarkable.

Generally people just pull out their fucking smart phones and start recording with witty comments like "Nobody is helping this guy...I can't believe no one is helping that guy."

Yeah I noticed the sliding. I thought that was weird too. Wheels don't turn that way.

Not that weird. 5000lb car and they're lifting on a 45º Angle instead of a good 65-80º. Car is going to move in the direction they're pushing it. Which is sideways.
