New Guy lift help

First off, this forum is great and you guys are a wealth of info. I'll be getting a 2001 TRD DC 4x4 and I want 2-3 inches of lift. I have spent 2 days trying to research and find exactly what I want so that I can slowly break the cost the the old lady (wife).

Here's what I want:
1. 2-3 inches of lift
2. I don't plan to crawl but I'd like to be able to if I get a wild hair
3. It'll be a daily driver, but will be a toy in the future
4. I want enough travel to not bounce off speedbumps
5. I want durability (buy it right the first time)
6. I like simple (plan to install myself)

Can I get all this? Which kind and how much $

I read that and was almost set on OME, but then I read that even that lift doesn't have but maybe 1" travel in the shocks. I will re-read because I may have read it wrong.

And to clarify, it will be a daily driver for a while and then it will see more off road.

Ok, I did misread the OME travel part. I have had an OME lift before (FJ) and it was very stiff. Are they all that way?

 

Sorry for all the successive posts, I guess what I'm trying to get at is that I keep seeing all these fancy looking Fox or King or other pricey shocks and I'm wondering if they perform better than say an OME shock.

 

Not necessarily. The OME coils paired with OME shocks are actually supposed to give a better ride than some other lifts. If you want it all in one shot, check out the OME complete lift packages, or the Toytec Ultimate Lift kit. Both are high quality.

IF you're on a budget but want a great quality lift, look into 5100's with eibach/toytec coils, and either an AAL in the back or a new leaf pack.

That's what I run, and I love my lift

 

I went with an Alcan custom leaf pack (2" lift with a better load bearing capacity and smoother ride) $650 shipped, Bilstein 5100's all 4 corners $300, and Eibach springs (paired with front Bilstein set to 0) $150. Roughly $1,300 after all was said and done.

If you have an impact wrench the whole thing is pretty easy to install, 5 hours with another person. It gave me a 2" lift in the back with a 1.6" lift in the front and kept that Taco rake (back high). I have 265/75/16 Duratracs that stuff all the way into the wheel wells allowing the suspension travel to articulate completely.
Your lift heights will be a little different, but you get the idea.

My goal was to do it right the first time, keep a daily driver, keep 18-19mpg, and not break the bank. I have rallied this little truck through some pretty gnar trails and she does fine.

You will go insane reading through all of the posts on this site while your trying to decide what to do- so go good luck!

LOVE my OME suspension my 98 Tacoma. Rather than just being a lift kit it is a whole new suspension that lifts your vehicle about 2.5".... so you will have a much better ride. It is made for ride quality and the new OME shocks are great.

Had it for two years now. Much better than stock ride and great off road.

You can't go wrong with it.
