Help with lift situation

I have a 3" rough country lift on my 2011. I was told the ride would be the same, but I think the ride is stiffer. Also, my truck squeaks when you get in or out of it. Is that from the lift?

I see that most people don't recommend a spacer lift, which is basically what I have. Should I take it off an buy another lift that costs even more?

I called the local dealer, and they do 3" body lifts - a trailmaster. Anyone heard anything about this brand?

What's the difference between a body lift and suspension lift?

I wouldnt get a body lift or spacer lift. i did one of the cheapest ways possible and got the Bilstein 5100s set at 2.5 in the front and got a rear AAL in the back. Which means the front is all stock except for the shocks. i got alittle less than 3 inches of lift. Ive had no problems with this so far and its been about 8 months now. The squeek is most likely from the leaf springs and many members have the same squeek, lifted or stock.

I'd stay away from body lifts... yeah, just stay away. They look like crap and can be unsafe.

Spacer lifts work, but there are much better options available as sambojee mentioned above. How high are you looking to lift, what do you use the truck for and how much do you want to spend on a lift?

Well it seems to me that a body lift and spacer lift are very similar. I think my rough country lift is some sort of suspension lift, since they did have to align it after the lift was installed.

But if I jump in the back of my truck, it squeaks. Is this from the lift, or is it the squeaky leaf issue?

 

A body lift and a spacer lift are nothing alike... A body lift shoves a spacer between the body and the frame, a spacer lift either preloads the front coils or is mounted on top of the front strut to space the front suspension down.

The leaf spring squeek is not necessarily caused by the lift. Try pressure washing between the leafs to blow out any dirt. Sometimes that's all it takes. You have a 2011, the dealer might be able to do something about the squeeky leafs. If not, you can try this out:

YOu spent around 30k for your truck. spend a little more money and lift it the right way instead of going the cheap route.

 

Thanks for the reply! Ok so do I need to take it into the dealership for the leaf squeak?

I only want about a 3" lift. I do some light offloading and camping mainly. I already have the spacer lift. Should I just keep it?

I don't want to spend a ton of more money on a lift, but if it's worth it then I'm open to considering buying another lift. I do plan on putting bigger tires on it eventually also

 

Your questions have been answered about 3 times in this thread alone... re-read, and then type some stuff in the search box you see towards the top right of this window.

 

If you want the dealer to try and fix it, yes, take it back. It's a new truck, they might be able to help you out. If you're feeling handy, you could fix it yourself using a pressure washer and the DIY link I posted.

That's obviously the worst case and keep in mind Camburg makes higher end suspension components so you wouldn't expect a cheap spacer lift to live up to their expectations. Spacer lifts do work and plenty of people here have them but there are precautions. If you wheel your truck, spacer lifts are not for you. You could end up blowing out your shock when wheeling with a spacer lift. If you stick to pavement or maybe a dirt road, you'll be fine. There are much better options but, like you said, you already have the spacer lift installed...

One thing to keep in mind also, when you start pushing the 3" of lift, you might need new Upper Control Arms to get your alignment within spec.

I do like to drive off-road, but I probably only do it a few times a year. But it sounds like I could tear it up in those few times. I don't go on any crazy trails, but I do more than just dirt roads.
