2012 TACOMA MEGA-THREAD

the TRD sport never came with a locker...only the TRD offroad. n ya the offroad still has the button

 

The local dealer has a 2012 Double cab TRD Sport scheduled for arrival in Mid October. According to the spec sheet, it has the base radio/CD player and sound system...no satellite road or other audio/navigation goodies (?). Just what I want. Will this come prewired with a roof antenna for satellite radio. Couldn't get an answer form the sales department. Don't need no stinkin' shark fin on my roof.

 

So the TRD Sport DBL Cab longbed that I saw had the 18 inch wheel...so called upgrade. They had some protective cover on it that was a chrome color, but they were basically BOLT ON HUBCAPS! They seemed to look good but, they seemed like a cover held on by the lugnuts. The salesman pointed that out to me, but we could not see what was under the without taking everything off. WTF?

 

Those are called chrome clad wheels. They look like the same thing underneath just not shiny.

 

hmmm...oh well, I wont be getting the upgraded wheel package anyway.
Are they supposed to stay on? the concept was so cheap to me.

 

the build your own tacoma section is still using the jacked up 2011 build page that gives you a primer black front bumper on the sport.

 

they had this 2012 White TRD Sport Longbed Double Cab at the dealer on the showroom floor. The front end looks soo good in person, the corners on the front bumper arent as painful in real life. the photos dont do it justice. I couldnt get farther away to get a full picture due to the inside layout of the showroom.















So the black portion of the front bumper seems like it should come off pretty easily, but I dont know how it was attached, but it seemed likely to be a few screws. You have to see the truck in person to appreciate it. The interior is nice, it seems like the exact same sport cloth fabric. The radio trim is glossy black, where as the black trim on the door around the window buttons is more flat black. They had screw in all season mats, but I will get weathertechs when available.

All in all...I love the truck. This model had Entune and the 18inch wheel upgrade. Im not impressed with either upgrade and dont see the justification in getting them. Turn signals in the side mirrors are an amber color

 

I like the new rims on the sport package. They look good, but too bad it's shiny. They should have offered the FJ Cruiser TRD wheels. And the shark fin on top looks kinda odd. Other than that, it's growing on me. Looks good, especially the blue sport model on the homepage

 

it sounds like you can remove the shiny cover and it will look the same as the cover, just not shiny chrome like the pic.

 

There is alot more to just removing them. They are glued to the wheel and do not come off easily. My mom bought an expedition and I noticed one day the wheels were plastic. Turns out 90% of chrome factory wheels are like this. Never pulled them off although I have tried. I am not 100% sure of how it works.

 

I was able to stop by the Irvine Power Toyota this afternoon and they were unloading new Tacos into the back "secret" area, and I also saw a few ones on the lot and snapped a few pics..

Unfortunately I wasn't able to get two like models together.. but I guess that's the best I can do.. One was a TRD Offroad (can't remember which one), but I wasn't able to get into any of them..

 

It does matter to me i like to keep americans working i am actually surprised they are not mfg in texas.

tail lights are definitely the same 09+ led's

 

anyone notice what i highlighted in red?....the off-road, sport and sport upgrade all say power lumbar support. the sport upgrade is the only one though that says smoked headlamp trim......

In the rear shot on the beach it looks somewhat different than the 09+. The lower part seems different.

I don't see the smoked headlights trim and that's a trd sport.

 

^ the website says smoked headlight trim on the trd sport upgrade package, but i'm beginning to think it's a misprint.
