Undercover Toneau Question

I have an Undercover classic (the ABS one) and was thinking about putting a cargo rack on it, like a Thule or Yakima or something.

something i can up a ski rack or bike rack on, maybe even mount a car top carrier on it on long trips (kinda doubt it though)

here is my question, would the ABS cover be strong enough?

i have seen it on fiberglass, but i dont recall any on the ABS ones.

According to Undercover, their ABS covers are stronger than fiberglass.

If you check out their site - you'll see the pics of several men standing on top of it. In the FAQ's, they say they wouldn't recommend having 10 men stand on it all the time, but it can hold it.

Using an average weight, that's 1,800lbs. I think you'd be just fine mounting a couple hundred pounds on it.

cool, any ideas on how i should do it since it isn't fiberglass?

 

I've only ever seen one of them in person and from what I can tell, you will probably want to mount some rails to it (bolt it to the cover somehow) and then use the rails for whatever you want.

As far as actually mounting the rails to the bed, I imagine just bolting it will work. Be sure to use good sized washers to reduce the stress on the ABS.

ok, cool, The rails are what i meant, woops,
we have an older Thule in our garage, and i just thought about it when talking to a friend about ski racks, so i will probably try to mount them when i get the chance

 

It shouldn't be too hard as long as you use the right hardware to mount it.
