Does anyone know how the measurement of weight (oz) in leather is comparable to thickness (mm)? I just want to know the thickest possible neoprene I can get to work for the arm rests for some extra cushioning.

    Thanks for any advice!

Just got done doing the driver's side yesterday. I used 5mm, knobby neoprene that I ordered from Seattle Fabrics (http://www.seattlefabrics.com/neoprene.html) for $30 + shipping. I hope to get to the passenger side tomorrow.

Readylift for now. TC UCA's soon.
As soon as I get my Wet Okole's in from the factory, I will be doing this mod. Originally, I wanted to pull the armrest and fix the broken driver side. I also would like to add padding, so I'm hoping the WO neoprene comes with the advertised layer of foam for comfort. I'll trim down what I have to to get it to sit underneath the door panel, and leave what I can for comfort. I should be doing a full write-up with all of the previously mentioned processes.

    Sanding/Cutting/Drilling melt points.

    Plastic Welding

    Which adhesive to use...

How much material I need to cover it...

    Which screws I use...

    Final product.

is anyone putting in some padding? just curious, started looking up int. mods, read on another board that there is some padding (it's like 1/8" thick or something), wondering if it's worth putting in, the OE arm rest padding is VERY thin, didn't even know it was there until I took off the door panel for my audio upgrade.

Pics never hurt :D I actually used both 3M 90 and the Contact Cement! That SOAB aint goin nowhere! I also used the recommended #10 sheet metal screws (not pictured, i went and bought some washers since the screws werent wide enough to tighten the plastic down on some holes) Wet Okole Neoprene Half Sheet and my personal beverage of choice for this mod!
Fast forward to taking the armrests off the door panel...my method was just tapping the melt points off with a hammer and small flat edge. tricky in some spots but it got the job done, dremmel would have been easy but i got faster with this method as i got the practice in (start with rear doors first! :D)
Some melt points didnt allow the plastic to separate after taking them off so you could try to use fingers to pry apart.....or apply the "think smarter not harder" advice and use a hammer like so
Ill get the finished product posted later but this DIY helped ALOT! hope my pics help alittle more....this mod was easier than i thought!

After taking my door panels off three times due to adhesion issues and/or the arm rests busting apart here is my 2 cents...

    A) Don't waste your money on the spray adhesive. I went with straight contact adhesive!!

    B) Don't waste your time trying to screw the welds back together. I used a soldering gun to re-weld the plastic weld points.

    C) My driver side arm rest was cracked as well...Once again used the soldering gun to melt the plastic back together followed by another weld on top of that using a piece of plastic I had laying around.
