In the small town I live in, the popular thing for all the kids to do is take their older regular cab Toyota pickups, lift them, put stupid big tires on, and chop a foot out of the bed.
There are dozens of these little things running around everywhere.
Just got me thinking, has anybody done this to a newer Tacoma? Either chopped the bed or fit the DC short bed onto a regular cab?

Yep. Other than watching our one stop light change colors, their entertainment is wheelin' in the mountains all around us.

You'd probably have to shorten the frame and modify the body mounts. It would be pretty awesome though.

Here's an example of what I'm talking about... these things are everywhere around here, but are mostly pre-taco Toyota pickups.
I want to see a 2nd gen short bed on a regular cab!

I'll try searching but I did see a pic of an access cab with a really short bed on it. I believe they used the double cab short box on an access cab and it ended up having the same wheel base as a regular cab. There's a pic somewhere, just gotta find it!

Not the SEMA truck, I forgot about that one... the one I was referring to was a rock crawler (and a pretty well built up one at that).

Reg cab wheelbase is already good, what is needed is to bob the bed behind the wheels to reduce the overhang.

So a bed swap to a DCSB bed won't have the desired effect.

Yeah, that bed shows highly "customized" wheelwell trimming.

    completely stock
if the second gen didnt have a composite bed, mine would be chopped by now...

still thinking of pulling the bed off and making a framework to bolt to the frame and mount shortened bed panels... hmmmm
