OK I took my overhead console apart to fix it as it isn't working, looks like it may be fried, the display is blacked out in one corner. Anyone know the part number or where I can get one.

Thanks for the info, I did try the fix, didn't work.

I may have screwed it up though, never soldered anything before.

When mine quit working the resistors looked fine but I soldered them anyway. I reinstalled it and it still didn't work... then I tried pressing the on/off button in front of the display and it came on

I also have the burn mark in the corner but it is hidden by the tinted cover.

Same here, it did not work and I pressed the button and it came on. I am not an expert a soldering, I am better with copper tubing that is not as intricate. From the link you can see that hundreds of people have had the same problem and fixed it themselves. It won't hurt to try soldering it again. Good luck.

Tried the button too, nothing. I also resoldered it, nothing. Are you supposed to solder both 510 resistors? Or whatever they are called.

Yes you should solder each end of both 510 resistors. Even if they look fine, it doesn't hurt to resolder them.

I'll try again tomorrow, was a little hungover and shaky today. My solder was a mess.

Either way anyone know the part number or cost of this part, what I have seen it seems to be about $150.

    neglect, mostly.
not that im cracking on your solder job, but you self admitted you weren't the best at it, is it possible you have some touching the two? that would keep it from working.

i fixed mine last week. one of the restrictors was popped up at a 45 degree angle. pushed it down, soldered it, put it all back and ba da bing!

    Thanks.

Out of boredom I went and pulled it apart again and re soldered it, worked this time, my work is sloppy as shit but no one can see it now.

    3rd times a charm I guess.

I've performed this repair on a few Tacomas where I work. Some of the times it took me 2-3 tries to get it to work. I've soldered hundreds of wires and circuit boards so I know what I'm doing. Glad to see you didn't give up

This is an option I will keep in mind.

Yeah I have never soldered anything before, only ever used a soldering iron as a kid to burn things into wood.

Plus I don't have steady hands, I shake like a bastard so that didn't help.

judging by his avatar i bet he'll go spend it on a street corner hand gun and a cheap bottle of whiskey since it looks like the rangers will again be going to world series while the yankees continue not to

Good one, when was the last time the Rangers won a world series? Oh that's right, never.

They do have a great team this year and should win, all around well balanced, offense with speed, starting pitching, and a ridiculous bullpen.
