Brand new truck, 6 months old and this happens! My friend was not paying attention and backed up into my truck doing this. I feel bad for him knowing that his insurance is probably gonna go through the roof after this. There is at least 1,000 dollars or more worth the damage here I would think? Its going to the body shop tomorrow to get a quote, will find out then. Thought I should share the pics.

Did it touch the body at all or just the bed?
If it did not touch the body, don't let them paint it to get it to match the bed. Better to have only one f'd up panel down the road then two.

If it make you feel any better here is my truck 7 days into ownership. The kid behind me driving his bosses truck was texting or some other BS and ran into me. He is lucky to be alive, I could have killed him! This is $2600.00 damage and it does not look like much. new bumper and all trim panels tail light and repaint the tailgate.

I have to take my dad's Honda Accord back to school this afternoon, that is alright though. Don't really wanna drive on to campus with a big embarrassing dent in my truck. Damn the luck to some of you, getting your trucks hit on the first day you owned them! That must have really sucked

What was your friend driving? Wonder if sliders with flip-up kickout would've helped?

Hey look it's even the same color as your truck!

Depending on how good your friend is to you and how sorry he is.

Its better to buy a complete bedside used ($150-$300). Then take it to a professional great body shop to color match it right. Your truck is so new that colormatching shouldn't be a problem.

Cost in total would be $400-$800 depending on shopping around and if you do the labor yourself.

That way its a win, win situation. Your buddy comes out of pocket to save a ton down the road with insurance.

If you go to a body shop, be prepared for the estimate to be crazy. Toyota charges about $1400 for just that panel unpainted. Then paint, labor will add up to $2500

see if he would rather pay for it out right than let insurance do it, it could easily end up cheaper for him

and like everyone else said, look for a used bedside and paint it, it will be cheaper

No, seriously. Some shops will go source a used bedside and make sure its perfect. Then repaint it themselves and you'd never know. Its the same thing as buying new. No difference once its painted and the used one is dent free.

Nothing ele happened to your truck, had it been your cab. I would've said insurance but since its a easy Bolt on bedside. Easy way to get passed it.

If you find a Used like new bedside in the same color, you might even win better.

In Socal, you can find used fenders for cheap! I just saw a 2011 Silver front and rear fenders for sale @ $200 each. Perfect condition.

^ The corner of the rear steel bumper must have made contact. Kinda funny your truck's damage exceeds the value of his truck.

X2 on RAD's suggestion. Keep in mind if you go through insurance, the collision will be in the books and possibly show up on Carfax, AutoCheck, etc. It will lower the resale value of your truck.

Thats okay, I plan to drive this truck til it quits, or for so long that by the time I trade it in it wont be worth much anyway
