Eclipse AVN 5510 vs. DNX 5120

I pretty much had decided on the Eclipse AVN5510 but after reading about the nav in the Eclipse being "sub par" , I now am leaning towards the DNX 5120.

In my 05 DC, my intention is to run 6.5 components up front, 6.5 coaxial's in the rear and 2-10" subs all thru an Alpine PDX 5 amp.

All that being said, the Eclipse has 3 preamp outputs and the DNX 5120 has 2 preamp outputs.

Does 2 outputs present a problem running the above setup? My audio knowledge is very limited, so I appreciate any thoughts on this.

 

If your only using one amp your just fine Besides it seems there are ways around evrything.

I have a 5120 with a 4 channel amp powering the doors currently and I am getting another amp/sub this friday...they are gonna "Y off the preamp, power and remote on wires

 

why not just run all your door speakers off of one amp and then power your subs though another amp? thats my plan for my DNX that im installing tomorrow...

 

get the 5120, i love mine, and its equipped with garmin gps. no worries there

 

Plus one. To fully realize your subs potential, I'd get another amp for the subs, especially since you're planning on 2 - 10", those bad boys will need some nice power going to them to really move. I like to move it move it!!!

Given the space constraints, not to mention the money situtation, I thought I would use only one amp.

Or another thought, is just get one sub, my thinking is one sub properly powered and enclosed will out perform 2 underpowered subs. The PDX.5 was designed to power a sub but 2 would be pushing it.

Don't take my word for it though, give Marv a call, he'd know exactly how to build the proper box for you to get the most from your subs. You can find him in his own forum (yeah he's that good).

Sounds like you'll be having a killer system. I am going be using the PDX 100.4 for my doors. These are awesome amps!

I completely understand the money issue, however, i would never do this in my own truck but i think if you even went to wal-mart and bought a cheap amp for 50 bucks to run your subs you would still be way better off and wont strain your 1 amp that you are planning on using.... either that or just do whats better off in the long run and wait to install the subs until your money situation looks better..... i share your pain im making an all JL audio system (besides the dnx5120) and i spent a pretty penny on my two component sets (6.5" JL VR-650CSi's) and my amp (JL 300/2V2) and the HU (Kenwood DNX5120) plus all of the JL wire and distribution block.... and before i forget the mounting rings for the doors (130 bucks compliments of www.*********.com:eek:)..... just cant afford the JL 13TW5 and the JL 500/1v2 yet gotta wait till next payday since im buying those two in pieces....

 

I already have the sub box. I got it from Super crew sound. Knowing what I know now , I would have checked with Mr.Marv. I just got a pair of adapters for my front components from him and they are very well made.

For the sake of argument...if I got a PDX 4 for my door speakers, is there a similar Alpine amp I would use for my subs?

 

That would be the Alpine 1.600 I'm a fan of matching amps (many are) and these are also stackable, check out Silverback07's build thread, he ended up stacking his 2 Alpines perfectly in the rear of his DC. His truck is the definition of badass.

How often do you sit in the back seat of your truck? I ask because I still don't think there is any gain giving the rear speakers anymore power than the HU will provide.

This is based on me being anti rearfill. I think it detracts from the over all sound quality by f-ing up the staging in the front.

With the 4 channel amp, you can power your front speakers and have good power for your sub. And you have the option of adding a dedicated sub amp in the future and powering the rear door speakers with the 4 channel. This way, you still have the biggest bang for your buck of adding a sub. IMO it is the most lacking part of the audio spectrum from the stock setup.

 

My back seat is rarely occupied. This is all good stuff. I apprecate you all responding.
