heated mirrors, check it out

Here is a quick video of my heated mirrors. I always hated how we didn't have this feature on our trucks, and living in upstate new york it's really needed. I used tusk handgrip heaters i got on ebay for about 20 bucks and a carling switch. I just followed a write up i saw on here. Works like a charm and is super fast. From the time i click the switch it instanly starts melting away the frost on my mirror. Took under a minute and a half for the entire mirror to heat up and become completely clear.

It's under piercedtigers cheap/free mods. I think it's a sticky.

 

This is the think i followed, it was a brease. I grounded the heating pads to one of the bolts that held the mirror onto the door and ran the other wire to my switch. I also have some pics in my build thread

just ordered some heaters. i've been procrastinating on this forever and winter is coming, glad i saw this post. looks good by the way

 

looks good. i was in the process of this mod before i had to sell the truck when i got stationed overseas. i see you're in glenville. i'm from warrensburg, just north of lake george. i'll be home within the next year and will be purchasing another tacoma. we should meet up when i get back. maybe a mod day or something.

 

yeah that would be awesome, i don't see very many modded tacomas around my area.

 

ya, same here. i was the only one that i saw/knew of that had a heavily modded tacoma. plan on doing the same when i get home in july/august. i had more electronic mods than anything, but the outside looked completely different as well compared to a stock tacoma.

 

I was just wishing I had something like this on my commute this morning. Was thinking maybe fitting something off of a sequoia or landcruiser, but this looks like it might be simpler.

Do you feel like the hand warmer gets away when your actually using your mirrors? Sweet mod though regardless.

When your looking in the mirror while just driving down the street do you feel that the portion of the mirror where the warmer is located is obscured?

 

It heats up the entire mirror, getting rid of all the frost/ice on the entire mirror. You cannot see the heating element in the mirror, you can just see the outline when it first starts heating up.

I think I remember hearing that the Sienna has a similar mirror.

The heater is on the backside of the mirror. The pattern you saw in the video is the heat pattern from the heater when initially turned on. In a minute or 2, the whole mirror would be warm and you'd never know where the heater is actually located behind the glass.
