Regardless of being an interference engine, the broken timing belt and all of its glory will end up wrapping itself around other parts of the engine and pullies and make one hell of a mess and probably bitch up & break other things. My sister-in-law blew a older jaq engine because her timing belt broke and it flopped around in there and eventually something poked a nice hole in her block, engine was toast.

Remember - just because you think the belt looks good doesn't mean anything. The material that holds the belt together underneath all that rubber is what gets stressed and fails without warning.

Wow! Haven't heard of that before. One more good reason to be proactive.

Sorry to bring up and older thread but how much does it typically cost to have timing belt, water pump, belts, etc. changed? Parts and labor.

local toyota shop wanted 350 for just the timing belt to be changed. id imagine it wouldnt cost much more for waterpump and anything else as you have to take out all that shit anyways to get to it to begin with.

also calling BS on that, the guy who did mine is a mechanic for the ford dealership here and it took him a couple hrs. Given this was in his garage which likely isnt as organized as a shop would be, but there is no way anybody replaces a tbelt in under 1hr

How much does your dealer charge? I'm trying to get a ballpark price when I get mine done.

Local dealer wanted at least 900 to do mine. I asked just out of curiosity.

The job isn't bad, I bought a kit with all of the parts for $250, took my time a a friday evening to get it done.

You can't guess at something like that....

Open up your owners manual, it'll tell you what you need to know.
