I took the unit out and removed the cd to try again and have the same issue. Something's wrong with the motor that accepts/ejects the cd. It's not the reader that needs adjusted.

Dang..... that was almost too easy. First off I'm glad to be apart of TW...just bought my 2nd Tacoma after deciding that I needed 4x4 and 4 doors. Apart reading this thread I was pretty confident I could do this and it was a success. For now I just ran a male end to the glove box. I was proud of my accomplishment so I left it there tonight and am now going to brainstorm where to put my input before I start drilling holes. Thanks for the help guys.

I am in the middle of this now, I got it apart, and I have everything except a small soldering gun.

I finished this yesterday, WOW, this is great, super cheap, super easy, a little scary when you start taking so much apart. But it worked, and there is no feedback, it sounds better than the Radio, right on par with CD quality sound. Unlimited Pandora in my truck!

Custom mud flap removal from rock on trail :), Tailgate Hose Clamp Mod, Cobra 75 wx st CB install, 19 more D-Rings in the bed, Satoshi Grill, Fog Lamp on any time mod. Relentless Fab CB antenna hood mount, LED bed lights, Demello Hybrid Sliders, Undercover Tonneau Cover, Lighted 4x4 switch
I really wish I would have done this sooner. Like, before my road trip would have been nice.
This mod made me realize how much my hands shake though. I was worried I was going to destroy the radio, but it turned out perfect.

The guys said he can install it on your radio. I would get a quote on that. If you decide to do it you should post pictures of how it is wired up inside.

Anybody ever try this? The only problem is it says it will only stream music on the front two speakers.

I think he means only the phone is sent through the front two speakers like the OEM one. My guess is he did some kind of a mod like this guy did.

    http://donn.dyndns.org/projects/carstereoinput/

The problem is I searched every chip part number and I could not identify which one was the audio processing chip.

Wondering if this guy got things figured out? Did unplugging the Negative battery cable work?

I'm wondering if some of the guys having CD issues left their CD's in the player when taking it apart?

Awesome I am glad you're all set. Welcome to TW! This place is pretty much my one stop place for any thing tacoma. You should check out the rest of the cheap/free mods some of the other members have done. You might just become an addic here.

I'm new to the forums and wanted to say thanks for this Mod. It works great. The only time i get bleed through is when I am not playing any music on my phone but it is still plugged in. Then I get the muffled sounds of the current CD, the muffled sound goes away as soon as music is being played, even if playing silence.
Here is one picture I wish I would have seen, I was unprepared for the size of the sodder points when I opened up the radio. I chickened out, put it all back together, then felt like a wimp so i took it back out of the truck and went for it. I'm glad I did, it works great.

Here is my jack location, It was easy and well hidden, just in case the next guy doesn’t appreciate my modifications. (resale value!)

Thanks for all the posts and information, couldn't/wouldn't have done it without you.

Did the mod earlier today, I thought everything went great until I tested it and the left side drivers side has no sound during cd mode and faint unclear sound during aux mode with my Iphone. I guess I have to recheck my soddering? Any other ideas? Will post pick of aux input location tomorrow.

I would check your solder connections like you mentioned. Make sure your internal ribbon cables are properly installed as well.

I've been lurking here quite awhile and finally decided to give this mod a try. I got the error 3 message and CD won't even accept a CD. BUT the input DOES work and sounds good. After awhile playing music off my Iphone it turned off. :notsure: When it boots back up it works for awhile then turns off again. Guess I'll open it back up and see what could be wrong. Hope its still salvagable. I'd hate to give up and have to buy a new radio.

Thanks for sharing the mod. Got a question: near the end you have pictured a plastic box of some sort with the words remove guts. What's that and where did you get the cover plate that says AUX?
    Thanks,

Did you have any luck after you opened it up. Check your ribbon connection and what not. I don't really undersand the iPhone turning off. I used my iphone for a while with it and never had that issue. Is your iPhone charging? maybe it is just going into sleep mod.

This box is the factory Aux input from a 2009 tacoma.[IMG]

And this panel is from a 2009 tacoma as well.

From 2009 to present Toyota started putting aux inputs in from the factory. When I purchased my truck it had a deployed passenger airbag so I had to replace the dash. The only dash available at my local junk yard was one from a 2009 Tacoma which came with the aux input but not the compatible head unit. So I wanted to figure out a way to use the factory aux input which got me started on this thread in the first place.

You can buy those parts separately but I believe the aux input is something like $90 from a dealer . So unless you pull them from a junk yard and get them for a few bucks I would not bother.
