Went to my dealer today for an oil change. Told them about the chirp, and without verifying the noise, they ordered the "new" blower. Service Manager said that they were advised at a service briefing that, this being a known issue, all blowers brought into question will be replaced. Mine is scheduled for next week....

I'll vouch for the comment about not verifying the noise...The first motor my dealer installed, I ended up bringing my truck in twice so they could verify the chirp. (Usually had to be pretty cold for them to hear it). The last two motors were ordered without getting in the truck...

Hey guys, 3 weeks now and all still quiet. This is with the fan running every day.

To get rid of the noise i filed the leading edge of the brushes and i didnt write it in the first mail but i actually filed the back edge also. I would say that i filed it to a 45 deg angle about 1/8" to 3/16" down and then also streached the springs about an extra 1/4" to put a little more force on the brushes.

I will update you if the noise comes back but give it a try.

Does anyone have the measurement of the shaft diameter, Also the outside diameter of the bushings and length of them?

So, I never heard from Toyota Canada, contacted the dealer and apparently they had heard. They are getting a new type of blower motor in which apparently the dealer didn't know existed and they are installing it on Wednesday. I'm assuming its the part number mentioned above, so we'll see how it goes. I've had my truck 2 years today and feel like I've been listening to this noise for most of the 181,000 km I've put on it. I'll let you know how it works in the 2010 models.

I have a 2011 and the noise started almost immediately. I griped about it after owning the truck for a couple months & I got a bit of a cold shoulder from the service department. After continued griping, and making the guy climb inside the truck and listen to it, they finally put a new one in. I've had the new one for about 2 months and still quiet so far...

My replacement (I think the -2 version) from late last spring is making far worse noises (when cold) than the original ever did. Going to go in for attempt #2, either under the repair warranty or the extended warranty.

It is too bad the original heater blower motor from my mid-60's Plymouth wouldn't fit. It worked fine (and silently) after nearly a half century (last time I used it).

I took my truck in to get the motor replaced today. I didn't take the service bulletin with me but the guy assured me they have the new motors. They never tried to verify the noise. Glad to be noise free, hopefully it lasts.

I was on my 3rd blower motor when my warranty ran out on my 2009 Tacoma so I cleaned my blower motor and filed the brushes to 45 deg on both sides and it fixed the noise, no more noise for now. So far it was a easy fix.

Had my 3rd blower motor put in at the dealer today. I am told (and saw on the invoice) that it is a 0404(3) model. We'll see how long this one lasts.

I just installed one of the new Toyota motors. I previously had one of the TYC aftermarket fans I installed last November. The TYC fan always made this rumbling whirling sound. It was down in the 30's the week before and the TYC fan stared to make a faint chirping sound so I ordered one of the new fans.

The old Toyota fans used to be made by Delphi a subsidiery of GM. This new fan is from a new supplier altogether. The part number on the new fan doesn't match the Toyota part number so who knows who the new supplier is. The sticker o nthe fan doesn't list a manufacturer.
