anyone painted chrome rear bumper??

thinkin about painting my chrome rear bumper silver to match my truck, anyone done this post pics and how much it cost?? i wna get it done professionally by someone good, i know sandblasting it down is gna be the best way to go

 

I had mine blasted and sprayed. No pics of the process since the body shop did it but they charged me $300. I guess the blasting and prep is time consuming.

 

If you get the chrome off yourself you can cut the cost in half on painting it.

Are you going color match or black? If you want a black bumper, sand it down and bedliner it.

 

thanks guys, yeah im wanting it painted to match the truck! i might can get a buddy with a sandblaster to do it to help some on the cost of it

Do a search, before I did mine, I searched a bunch, and there is a thread on here somewhere of someone who color matched silver in their garage, turned out pretty good..

I am happy with the bedliner on mine if you decide to go that route..

It would have been less than $100 for the body shop to shoot it.

 

Curios if there is anyone out there who didn't sand blast and just sanded down and had a body shop paint it, or had a body shop do both..

anyone out there having long term issues going this route?

Thanks for the same link... maybe I should clarify.. anyone out there that sounded down their chrome bumper and got it color matched with clear coat by a body shop (no bed liner)

If the prep is done right I don't know if it would be a problem, but anyone out there do this method and have any long term problems?

 

You can use sand paper and chem strip to get the chrome off, or just a high speed belt sander for the main part of it.

I haven't done the Tacoma bumper yet but I did my buddy's truck this way and it was pretty simple.. just a lot of sanding to get the ugly chrome off.

 

why dont you just get it powdercoated? That's what I'm gonna do with mine. Most shops have tons of color options so you could probably find a match. I was quoted somewhere between 100 and 150 depending on what style i wanted to go with. plus, its a lot more durable than paint.
