need better audio

I have a first gen tacoma and i need some advice on some better sound to it because lets face it stock audio is terrible on a tacoma.

 

Goals?
Budget?
current equipment, if any?
Space you are willing to give up (if adding a sub)?
Restrictions for any reason (no sub, amps of a certain size, etc)?

Installing yourself, or having it done?
Brand preferences?

 

nothing really expensive but something good and maybe speaker box in middle back seat or behind seats and ill probably get somebody to install it if i cant

 

"Nothing really expensive" could mean anything from the $100 Pioneer package from Wal-Mart to a $1500 multi-amp system. Give us a few more details so we can give you some useful advice.

 

Something around 250-300. I already got new radio

 

Just go buy some upgraded door speakers and a different head unit from best buy or something.. doesn't sound like your into very good audio, just want better than stock.

 

I'll tell you my set up. I have 2 Kicker DS60's in a mdf spacer I made so that they would fit in the door, my headunit is a Kenwood KDCX395 great hu for around $100 unless you're a purist audiophile this is perfect, and 2 Polk Audio MM840's in a Supercrewsound.com box being pushed by a Kenwood KAC8105D amp.

I've had it all together for a few months and it still sounds great. I've also had the hu for 4 years, I moved it from my S10 to my Tacoma, and it's still sound great but I've got an annoying static sound when playing the iPod hook up but I will be buying another one soon. Over all this entire thing was about $400 brand new and sounds great. Hope this helps.

The info is actually used to help you, so if you can take a few minutes, you will get better help.


If you dont care to do so - Go to a shop, listen to the stuff in your budget, then buy it, and install it. If you cant install it, ask them, they will do it for you. Pioneer has some components that sound decent for the budget. D1720 or something like that.

 

If it were me, and I were looking to spend $250-300 I would probably buy the following (or something similar that works for your ears.)

1. MB Quart ONX4.60 - SonicElectronix.com - $99
2. Eclipse SC6900 - eBay - $82.15
3. Speaker Adapters - $40-70
4. 4 or 8 ga. wiring kit - $25-50

I would also spend a little to deaden the doors, or at least deaden around the speakers.

I did the same thing, and I am now in the process of adding a sub, but the results thus far have been pretty impressive.

Do the 6.5s have a lot of bass or just get loud

 

This question has a lot of variables, but in the end a door mounted 6.5 is not going to produce a lot of bass. I have a pair of 6x9's, and they have to play at a pretty high volume before they even match the stock system for bass output.

 

If all you have is three hundo then just buy some decent 6.5s for your truck. Go to a local audio shop and audition some speakers. Honestly 300 Total wont get you more then a decent set of front speakers.

It doesnt get any better then that..

 

Go to best buy or a car audio shop. Listen to a few different sets of speakers. Find what you like on the onlinecarstereo site then email dude that works there.

 

In that case stick with 6x9's. There aren't as many options, especially among "good" speakers, but you will get more bass. Also, read about "sealing" the doors. This will help with your midbass production.

 

Just because theres a tiny bit more cone area does NOT mean it will play louder or have more bass, but thanks for coming out.

You can hear the bass and the Kickers will handle it fine ie won't distort them until you get into the really low notes but they won't shake the cab or nothing like that.

You would be best off getting a sub if you want some decent bass. My 2 8's will rock the truck and make my outside mirrors vibrate. Co-axle speakers will give you good bass if you seal up the doors but you won't feel the kicks just hear them, which is fine for some people I just like to feel my beats.
