Got a new (to me) front bumper. How do I paint the center black?

Its been over a year since I've been on here. During that time, I crashed my truck 3 times, basically ruining my front bumper. I picked up a used one the other day for pretty cheap that I've decided to paint the lower center section black. My one problem, I don't know how. Haha. What paint should I use? What should I do to prep the bumper? Any info will help.

And before you tell me to search, I did. I couldn't find much.

I've heard vinyl is all the rage these days.

 

Tape off what you don't want to paint,

sand down what you want to paint. Wipe it clean

use primer first, let it dry between coats,

then use spray paint, follow directions.

then use clear coat
then wet sand.

 

i have mine line-x'd for 50 bucks. Just so i don't have to worry about it chipping and repainting it

Screw plasti-dip, especially if you're prone to hitting things... Tape off what you don't want painted, give it a light sand, clean it well with a lint-free cloth and some rubbing alcohol (light on the alcohol, it's just to remove any oils and waxes), then hit it with Rustoleum Bed Liner. Permanent and will not scratch or chip.

It's been tough at nails for me, looks schweet too, did my valance and skid with it.

 

X3 I used it on my lower valence good stuff!

 

Does the rustoleum bed liner have a texture to it or is it just like a flat black paint? And what grit sand paper do i prep the bumper with?

I picked up a can of rustoleum bed liner and one of rustoleum undercoating. Both are rubberized so would I be able to use the undercoating instead of the bed liner just to get an untextured look?

 

I don't know what the undercoating comes out like. If you want a flat look, no texture at all, you should just use regular spray paint and a clear coat. Something like Krylon Fusion would work well for the valance. The Rustoleum bed liner is textured but it had a nice look to it in my opinion.

 

Ok so I just did my first coat. I started with the undercoating because I wanted a non-textured look, but it looks like the undercoating has a texture to it too. So now I'm wondering if I should use the bed liner now.

Does anybody know what the difference between the bedliner and undercoating?

 

Test both products on something other than your truck and wait for them to dry to see what they turn out like.
