could some explain the roof racks?

I am new to all this. So dumb questions.

I was interested in a roof rack for my 2010 extra cab.
So, do those 2 plastic strips up on the roof pull off and thats where the roof rack is fastened?

And where do I find? Any links would be appreciated.
Or someone got a used one for sale?
Ebay? What do I search for?
OEM?

I have yet to find one for an Access Cab. I think they are a myth. I would like one too though.

there is a member here that put an OEM on his access cab, he had to mod it quite a bit and drill his roof but it looks bad ass

So what's the deal, they don't think we Access Cab types have anything to do, that we would ever want a rack for luggage or bicycles or skis or a kayak? What are we, lepers?

 

haha no theres just 3/4 the space of a DC which doesnt leave much room for stuff i guess, and they probably didnt want to manufacture three different sizes of roof rack for all the cab sizes

Does any one have the OEM racks and actually haul a Kayak on it? I am purchasing a Trident 15 t,(big-long Kayak) i would like to haul it on top of my Tacoma but i DO NOT want to damage my roof if the OEM wont hold the weight of the Yak. thanks for any help i can get here,

 

The OEM rack is rated for 75 lbs.

 

Well that sucks, but the kayak im looking at weighs about 60lbs,might be ok

 

There's not enough room on the access cab to make a stowable rack like on the double cab. The guy who modded an OEM rack to fit his access cab can't rotate the cross bars so their in the stowed position like you can with a double cab. Yakima and Thule make much nicer racks and are rated for more weight. For the money, they're a much better option if you actually plan to use the rack.

Not true. I got the instructions with mine and it says 100lbs...

 

Yakima or Thule. The OEM racks will not fit your access cab without significant modification.

 

Yakima and thule both make completely removable rack set ups that can fit on the access cab. i have the yakima set up on my double cab, but make sure to get the right clips or it can cause problems and won't fit.

I looked at this site and the rack on it says 75lbs.

 

The actual instructions that came with mine says 100lbs...
