Hey Manny,

you know a lot about bikes? went out to ocotillo for new years and rode a YZ450F and a 2001 YZ250 (2-stroke), it was sick!. thinking about getting another money pit, any recommendations?

 

that 450 is a fast mo'fo' gabe !! unless you have some dirt experience with a big 2 stroke or 4 stroke, it may be too much bike till you get some offroad hours under your belt (assuming you have no or little dirt experience) But if i remember, you already have a bike right ??

 

Word. I played with a 350 and that was more than fast enough for my skinny ass. I ate shit going down blowsand my first time. haha

 

I would definitely stay away from 2 stroke you don't wanna worry about mixing gas with oil and getting it all perfect.... It's just a pain in the but I would suggest a 4 stroke for sure! Pump gas straight to it and go!

Not sure how tall or heavy you are or if you have any bike experience but for someone who is just starting out or someone who is not a real tall or big guy I would recommend a 250f four stroke. that's what I ride except I'm all about hondas! My crf250 is awesome I love it!

Back to u.. A 4 stroke 250 has plenty of power however if you're a 6'4 300lb man it might not be able to pull ur weight around as easy as a 450.

Best advice is a 4 stroke and if it's ur first bike don't spend 8k on. A brand new dealership bike I'm sure you can find a good deal on Craigslist or cycle trader and can probably get a nice bike for 2-3k

Yeah, i have a GSX-r 600 track bike so i am comfortable on a bike.

The lack of traction on the dirt bikes was the biggest thing i had to get my head around but i think will only strengthen my tarmac riding abilities.

THe 450 was nice and fast top end but i felt it lacked what the 250 had down low...Gobs of torque right out the gate.

i found a few 250 2 -strokes for about 1,000 which means i could probably pick up one for me and my brother.

 

Here's my 2stroke FS,they are cheap to maintain and easy to work on,mixing gas is as simple as wiping your ass,just think a rebuild on a 2 stroke is a couple hundred,rebuild on a 4 stroke is over a thousand,plus you don't have to worry about valves.http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/buy-sell-trade/191608-02-honda-cr-250r-clean-2-stroke.html

 

Biggest thanks to Poke Taco for the shock replacement. You kick ass, man. It's really going to help until some more 5100s are available. Once mine is replaced by DSMS, I'll be sure to pass them on to the next guy in need.

 

so why u sellin for a 4 stroke then?

 

cuz i don't ride like a 2 stroke,and i can finally afford the bike i want.i bought the 2 stroke for the cost of maintenance.

 

Too much talk. I want 2 strokes. Get 4 strokes. Just buy the darn thing and get it over with.
