    Hello Forum,
I purchased a 2008 Tacoma 4 door short bed 4 days ago with 34,000 miles on it. It does not come with an auxilary jack for i-pods (already ordered the kit) and NO COMPASS. Does anyone know of a GOOD QUALITY compass that I can purchase or am I limited to what the parts stores sell? Thank you for any input, recommendations and experiences with these.

I ordered the GROM IPD3 Interphase on ebay for $93.00 (including shipping). I have not received it yet. There is a tutorial on how to install it. It's on Youtube.

You can but the oem one and put it in the overhead console, there are always used ones floating around, the truck is already wired for it, but getting the plastic trim can be difficult or expensive

Also the gentex mirrors look pretty appealing, I think they are also the makers of the newer oem ones

it’s plug and play. and look in the buy/sell/trade on here. may not be one right now but they show from time to time. thats going to be the cheapest way to get one.

    OP - heads up!

If you buy an OEM temp/compass console, make sure you buy one for / from a 2009-2011 Taco! The 2005-2008 Tacos use a different wiring harness & will NOT work with 2009-2011s.

MountainEarth, my truck is an '08. I assume you mean for me to buy an '05-'08 console, right? Because the '09-'11 will not fit. Is this what you meant? Thanks!

yea that's what he meant, this pretty much explains it all

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2n...stall-overhead-compass-temperature-gauge.html

I think the overhead console retails for about 180ish and you can find one new online for about 130ish

I think the compass/temp meter is about 160ish and you can find one new for about 120ish,

the ambient air sensor is about 18ish and you can find them for 12ish, these are all new parts, I just picked up all of them on tacomaworld for 120, so I thought that was a good deal

I didn't know that they made a rear view mirror (with compass) as SAMSUNG stated, for these trucks! I LIKE IT ALOT!!!!! Now, my vehicle has the plain (non-compass) overhead console. When I unbolted it I noticed a plug attached to the top of the console. Will that plug into the mirror and will the compass work righg away or do I have to mod/calibrate something else?

I dont think that plug will plug directly into the mirror, but I'm pretty sure you would use those wires to power your mirror. The compass may need to be calibrated (ie driving around in a circle) but I don't think you'll need anything further. If you are looking at a mirror with temperature, you may or may not be able to use the ambient air sensor that toyota has already prewired, but most of the instructions i've seen looks like you will have to run your own temperature probe.

gentex makes some good mirrors. I had one on my 2007 tacoma, it had a compass, auto dimming, and temp. you have to run a wire to the front of your engine compartment for the temperature sensor, it's just a clip that's attached in the front of the truck, and you have to tap to a 12 volt source for the power. that's it simple and easy.

Yeah that's what I meant. But check your truck stats... They say "2010 Double Cab Automatic"
