I'm a state trooper, so I obviously push seat belt usage very hard. However, there are times I am using the truck when seat belt usage is impractical and does not enhance safety at all, and the chime gets annoying as hell. Please add your examples to ease the minds of all the nanny-state folks, but here are a few of mine:

    1) Farm work. Humping hay, feeding cattle, checking fence lines, etc. All require in-and-out with a 10's to 100's of yards in between. What is my seat belt going to save me from out there?

    2) Garage sale duty. My wife loves to stroll the garage sales on Saturday mornings. We live in a large neighborhood, and there are dozens of garage sales most summer Saturdays. Again, get in the truck, drive 5-6 houses down at 5 mph, get back out. The seat belt dinger starts almost immediately and continues until you get to the next house. Rinse and repeat two dozen times, and seat belt use gets ridiculous. And because some pot-stirrer will inevitably ask, no, I would not issue a seat belt ticket to someone for this.

    3) Track days. In between sessions, I like to get in the truck and drive to different parts of the track to watch the other sessions. Again, what kind of catastrophic collision is the belt going to save me from on the infield of a road course track?

    Alright Trooper Dave,

1)What if the bull did not get some last night and and is just pissed and sees you and smacks you in the passenger door throwing you out and the rest of the cows stomp you?

2)What if there is a van load of Mexicans racing to beat you to the next house and run you off the road in to a fire hydrant and it breaks and flips your car over and you fly out into the street in front of the second van load racing that was behind you?

3)Not sure I really have anything for this one? Except maybe the rear sneak attack from the safety car heading out to a wreak on the track.

I guess its just second nature for me to put mine on when sitting in the seat. Was taught young. But it is a choice thing after all.

I can't understand why every time someone posts a question on how to disable a safety feature other holier-than-thow jackasses feel it their duty to jump in with a comment. If you really feel you need to preach your opinion start a thread of your own about it. Don't try to thread-jack someones attempt to get information. Beyond rude. Pisses me the fuck off!

Just picked up two free extension belt from the dealer and cut the webbing off. For some reason my 2012 buckles are different in the rear than in the front. Dealer got me the rear ones first and they didn't fit. So make sure you ask for the front. From what I understand, if the dealership actually disables the minder it may reset itself if you have the battery disconnected for service.

Oh, good grief. Climb down off the pedestal and stop trying to lecture others, mother superior. I've driven for well over 40 years (seatbelts weren't even required for nearly 15 years of that) without an accident, most of that time without a seatbelt. Throughout all that, seatbelts did not improve my safety - driving safely did.

Regardless, my choices regarding my safety are my business, not yours or the government. Do you lecture motorcyclists (calling them stupid, etc), who also wear no seatbelts or occasionally no helmets? I seriously doubt it.

Amazon sells a device for $15 which does indeed work very well in my 2012. Since the seatbelts appear to be virtually the same, should work just fine on the 2011 as well.

this forum is to help out fellow tacoma owners with issues they may not understand or need help with.. not to bash or make fun of.. I dont understand why someone see a ? on a thread and feels the need to bash them.. I dont think the thread should be locked just the people who want throw out sarcasm should be warned or banned.. If you cant help then don't post to this thread.. seems pretty self explanatory. just my two cents.. And OP hopefully someone can help.. I have an 06 which doesnt have the chime but I had a ford work van which did and yes they are very annoying..Good luck with the fix

The seat belt dinger doesn't activate until you go over 10MPH. So, if you're driving from house to house at 5MPH, it will not bother you. I do this from the mail box to the driveway coming home.

    Just a thought. :D

I don't care if people don't wear a seat belt. I admit I went through a "phase" where I did not. However, I don't think people realize the force involved in a dead stop at 20MPH from hitting something.

The other issue is, by not wearing a seat belt, the responsibility of the act in an accident often lies on someone other than yourself. That's part of the rub with helmet laws, too. The person gets in an accident, and everyone else has to help pay the medical costs for the injury.

I have no interest in infringing on someone else's liberty. They are, and should be, free to do whatever they want--until it affects someone else.

Worked great on mine (black gauges) :)
Beaverton Toyota said they could do it (I later found the sequence here since I wasn't willing to pay $55 for it).

<troll> And it's much safer now that I'm not distracted by the dinging :D </troll>

But, contrary to the characterization above, we're not stupid and already know that. If nothing else (government ads, police 'click it or ticket" ads, etc), we've already heard it at least a dozen times in other threads. Thus, there was no reason for the lecture, and certainly no reason for the derogatory nature of that lecture.
