I have seen two write ups on how to make your parking lights double as additional turn signals. I don't understand them... Does someone have a better diagram, pictures, or how too? I really want to do this, and figure that it is really simple, but I am super confused...

    HELP

I have a 2006, so NO DTRL, and I have LEDs in my parking lights, and regular factory bulbs in my front turn signal lights. So I am not going to add much load to the fuses by putting the LED parking lights in there.

    THANKS

    Have you read this:

    http://dsl.torque.net/images/Markerflash.pdf

It's not going to work with the LED bulbs though. The amp draw shouldn't be an issue I don't think. Also, you need a dual element bulb in the turn signal location. I'm not sure if our trucks have a dual element bulb installed. If they do, only one element (signal) is wired up from the factory.

If you can get dual element signal bulbs and go back to the stock parking light bulbs, modify the wiring to what that diagram shows then the way I understand it, your lights will do this:

Parking lights on: Front turn bulbs will light dimly, stock parking bulbs will light up normally like they do stock. When you turn the signals on, the second filament in the signal bulb will come on (brighter, just like the tail/brake bulbs in the back work), at the same time, every time the signal flashes the parking bulb will go out.

Parking lights off: The turn signal bulb and parking bulb will flash together.

That's how I understand it. Plenty of cars on the road that behave that way if you pay attention to it.

Edit: After reading this I will correct myself. This guy appears to have LEDs in his factory parking lights. That is the reason his parking lights only blink when the headlights are on. LEDs only flow current in one direction. If he wanted the parking lights to blink during the day, he'd have to go back to regular bulbs.

I THINK we already have the dual element bulb up front in the turn signal location, but the connector does not have the wire installed for the second filament.

Thanks, what are parking lights for? And are they required?

I believe they are required. They are so you have a light at each corner visible from the side of the vehicle at night.

So what does the wiring look like? What are you connecting? What kinds of bulbs are you running? LEDs? Also when you say it only works when the parking lights are on, does that mean when they are off just the regular front turn signals work? Or do you have to have your lights on all the time?

Its literally as easy as this.....

Just cut the black/white wire on the side marker and splice it from the bulb into the Red/black on left turn signal. For the right cut the black/white and splice to red/yellow.
Dont cut the red/black or red/yellow wire. Use a vampire clip or something like that like I did. I would take pics but I have everything taped back up.

once you go look at the wires on your truck, it will all make sense.
