bilstein/eibach lift question

Is it still necessary to add a 1/4 top plate spacer when installing a new lift???.... i know most, if not all, tacomas have the (lean) but installing a new suspension lift should get rid of that correct??

 

No you'll need the spacer. The driver side is heavier than the passenger side creating that "taco lean"

 

thanks man...dang!! how in the heck is the front driver side heavier than the passenger,,,esp when a new suspension is added??? where is the extra weight comming from?? making this thing lean??

 

gas tank on one side. driver on the same side. battery on the same side.

I installed the top plate spacer on mine. The lean is still there but a lot less noticeable. Just have to learn to live with it.

 

another question,,,how necessary are the shims when adding a lift.. (rear)

I do...and i have no spacer and no taco lean.

You don't need the spacer.

And by shims im assuming you mean the new bushings? Id highly recommend you get new ones. They are cheap and you might as well get new ones now while its all apart.

Or what do you mean by shims??

wow really? Your the first i have ever heard say that.

 

Yeah I got bilsteins on all four corners with eibach coils in the front and dakar packs for the rear. Even with the all new suspension I was still leaning pretty bad

 

Odd man. I never really had in the first place tho...and now i definitely don't have it with my Eibachs and Wheelers 6 pack..strange man. In that link i posted above i am pretty sure none of those guys needed on either.

 

I guess my tacoma got shafted hahaha

 

FWIW I have eibachs and I DO have a very noticable driver side lean. I guess some trucks are just different than others. OP, I say install it w/o a top spacer first and let the suspension settle for a few weeks to see if you get the lean. Then just order up the spacer if you do.... It's not to hard to install since it just goes on top.

As for shims, I think he means these:

I don't really have experience with them so I couldn't help..... I've got 4" lift leafsprings and I have no shims.....

 

Ah..shims...aka..Blocks..=cheap shit rear lift that kills your leafs and make ride worse.


If you can't do it right. Don't do it at all.

no, the shims are not blocks. My Taco is all OEM as far as the leafs and it has those shims pictured above.

Im with ttran on needing the spacers too, i have a pretty noticable lean when on flat ground im just to poor to buy the damn spacer right now
