Whats up everyone. I looking to purchase a 2nd gen taco. Currently waiting to sell my 99 4runner .

    Im debating between a new 2012 or a slightly used 2010 or 2009 ..

Just wondering , is the MSRP price negotiable at all on the 2012 ?

Because the 2010 low mileage truck prices arent even much cheaper then the 2012 new truck prices , its alsmot not worth it to buy used .

Toyota doesnt have that much markup in the first place on the Tacomas, but you should be able to get some $ off...

All that you are going to save on a 2010 with low miles is about 1 or 2k. Your payments are going to be just about the same and with a new truck because you are financing about the same amount of money. This is all with any type of change in the msrp.

Ya I noticed the same, just a couple of bucks more I can have a brand new 2012 with what they are asking for used trucks .

Only reason I ask is the 2012 is really pushing my budget, and if the 2010 had a 6-7k differance then maybe it would be worth the extra mileage and shorter warrenty.

OP ... imo go for a 2012. I have seen a few 09's around here ( not sure about milage) go for 3k less then what I paid for my new '12.

And I know my truck has more options and technology. I paid 33k for mine (fully loaded) new, and these were 30k used.

1 tip when buying a new car. Go to a large volume dealer, not a small one. I drove an hour and a half, passing 4 Toyota dealers that were closer to my house to go to a volume dealer. Reason being, they sell for invoice from the start. They don't go for the kill on 1 vehicle sale ,they just want to sell as many as possible.

Good luck. Whatever you choose to do, you will have a Tacoma, and you'll be happy.:headbang:

i just bought a '12 and it might sound bias but i would just buy new and spend the extra money and have the peace of mind knowing your new truck has been yours and yours only. i'd be to worried about what's wrong with the used seeing as how a lot of these guys on TW drive the hell out of their tacos, haha. :p plus the new upgrades to the 2012 are quite nice and well worth the extra cash. just my two cents though.

I too was looking at the used ones but it is totally possible to get a 2012 at invoice and that is very little above what used ones are going for. Get the 2012 the interior is nicer

+1 for 2012. I evaluated the exact same thing about pricing, and also wanted the variable valve timing motor, and updated interior.

Of course the truck I ordered won't arrive for at least another 3-4 weeks: Offroad DCSB with manual box.

Toyota has a $500 rebate incentive on 2012's right now, negotiate your price then make sure you get the rebate also.

thanks guys, I took a ride to the dealer today and wow the 2012s look nice. The price would have to much lower for me to consider a out of warrenty 2009 or 2010.

I think my next question is wether I want to long bed or short bed quad cab..

I saw the other thread on what people paid, but it turned into 30 pages of bickering back and fourth rather then facts about what everyone paid.

Well I looked at a 2012 last tuesday. Mag gray double cab, long bed, 4x4. Basically a base model with tool box, side steps, and a bull bar with leather on it. They wanted $35,000 for it. I asked what he could do on it. He offered to pay the repair bill for my tacoma in their shop right now and know the cost of the leather off it. I told him that he could take all the crap off the truck and sell it to me like that and I might get it. He said they would but they were still going to charge me for it and put it in the bed. I went inside, he looked up a base model, double cab, 4x4 with tow package. 33,009. I walked. Looked online at another dealer close by and saw a 2011 same package (7596), all it had was tow package, 4x4 and cd changer on it. They had it listed for 28,000. I called the next morning and put the down payment on it and am going to get it tomorrow. So look for the 2011's they are still out there and discounted. Only thing I had to settle for was mine is going to be white instead of mag gray. I can afford the paint job for that discount. :)

Awsome man, good to hear. There is some 2011's at my local dealer but the asking prices are pretty much msrp.
Though I havent talked to any of the sales man , Ive been avoiding it for now . I dont know why I hate talking to them so bad . And once they get your phone number or email they dont give up lol

I just bought a 2012 last week. There isn't a lot of wiggle room on the price. There was a $500 dollar rebate. 2010 and 2011 models were selling for about the same price in my area so I decided to buy new.

When I bought my 2010 I was hoping to find a 2 year old low miles truck but the prices were not that much different than a brand new one so I went ahead and bought a new one and the interest rates are generally better on a new car than a used one so I probably ended up paying about the same over all. Good luck on whatever you buy.

I wrestled with the same question of long vs. short bed. I've had two Ford F250 3/4 ton super cab diesels over the last 20 years. The double cab long box Tacoma was approaching the same wheel base as my Ford's. I wanted something more maneuverable and went with the 2012 Double Cab short box. I couldn't be happier with my decision, the 2012 Tacoma is such a pleasure to drive compared to the Fords.

Got mine at invoice. Got a good price for 09 gmc 1/2 ton trade in. Must have been some sort of dealership special.

I two was looking for a used 2nd gen but the price for a used one in my area was not worth it so I just bought a brand new 2012 one.
