Brake Pads and Rotors ??

    How easy are swapping rotors? I've done pads before, but not the rotors.

    In replacing the front rotors, do the hubs have to come off?

    Easy.

    Remove 2 bolts on the back of the caliper, they're big and hold the caliper to the hub.

    once the caliper is off the rotor simply pulls off. throw the new one on there and bolt the caliper back on. You might want to compress the caliper pistons a bit since the new rotor will be thicker than the old one.

    I am still on my OEM rotors, but I am running ceramic brake pads. I love them - they grab like vice grips and there is no brake dust to worry about.
    I have heard about people complaining about ceramic pads being noisy (screeching). When I bought mine there were 3 different grades, (expensive, more expensive and most expensive) - I bought the most expensive ones since I think brakes are important, and I have never had any issues with noise.
    One thing that is a little confusing, is that they state that the pads have a lifetime warranty - I am not sure how that works. If they have a lifetime warranty it means that they will not wear at all, which means that something else will wear - i.e. the rotors. Not sure how that works.

    I got cross drilled and slotted rotors from Summit Racing, and Toyota pads. It's a very good combination...the rotors resist warping, even if very hot then run through a cold river. The OEM Toyota pads last a LONG time. They're not too bad expensive if you don't have to pay them to put em on.

    ceramic pads do wear the rotors down much faster then the standard pads. That's one reason I don't run them.

    I wouldn't worry about that too much. By the time most pads wear out, odds are the rotors are already going to be under spec anyway.

    ditto. when I replace my pads and rotors i was going to go the slotted route with some hawk pads. my brake guy strongly advised against it. You will not notice a difference with the expensive stuff. I got oem pads and some $20 blanks and everything is great. No warping or anything like that.
