    Big Bend is probably the best place in the state scenery wise. Our beaches aren't as good over here, but we can drive on them. I'd go to Big Bend if I had to choose one place to go to.

    I'll second the spidertrax; they take a beating off road so they should have no problems on pavement for you. Considering what can happen if they fail I wouldn't get cheap on this part.

    I've never been but I've been on that side of the state and in New Mexico for backpacking and I've seen pictures of it. I'll see what I can dig up.

    Check my sig; it has 90% of the wheeling places and links to pics/reviews. You can make Texas two or three wheeling stops of the trip and still only hit the best places.
