Bolt on hood struts

I just ordered these off ebay, bolt on hood struts. One of the guys on Xrunner site did a write up on these. Easy install - NO drilling!!

subbed. let us know if they work for you. your 07, and my taco are out of the date range listed (95-06). perused their ebay site (G force dynamic performance) and found nothing similar for a more recent tacoma

 

I know one X-runner guy that had these, and unless they redesigned them, I didn't really like the operation.

They pretty much slammed the hood open as if the cylinders were for a much heavier object and the range was more than needed for the hood ( so the hood bound to stop them)

but we will see, hopefully they improved them

Hey OP, anything new?

 

Just put the hood struts on and they are top notch. Sorry no pics everyone, but here's my critique:

Shipping was normal for Hawaii and packaging and shocks/hardware feel and look of quality materials. I got the black shock and they look sweet.

Install took about 25 minutes taking my time. It is completely bolt in, no drilling at all. The only akward fit is the top mounting bracket that bolts on to the hood -it does not sit completely flush with the hood. It's minor and does not affect the opening and shutting of the hood.

Once i had everything hooked up the hood is opened about 4 inches higher then the hood perch rod. The moment of truth, i grab the hood from the latch hook and slowly pull down - slightly firm but very plush, when it gets down to about a foot and a half to close there is no shock assist so weight of hood will drop and latch itself.

When opening, you need to pull it up a foot and a half then the shock assist will take over and slowly and smoothly it rises up and stops gently - it's pretty frickin sexy if you ask me. I was worried that it was going to shoot up hard like in some other reviews but absolutely smooth opening up..I highly recommend if you can find a pair. The shock itself is Tokie brand shock absorber.

 

hey OP, did the package you received state they were for '95-06 model years, like the link you posted? curious cause both of our tacos our not within that range but wondered if it would work for mine as well. when you state "4" higher than the hood perch rod", do you mean the hood raises 4" altogether higher than OEM? curious cause that much higher is gettin' pretty high if the truck is lifted as is mine. thanks for updating. glad you're enjoying them
