im going to buy a double cab Tacoma and untill this weekend was going to go for the short box. I went for another midnight Toyota dealership run(nobody is around at that time to bug you) and took a harder look at the long bed. My question for you is what is your box length and do you find it fully functional. Can you hall 4' x 8' sheets of wood in a short box with the tailgate down? Thanks for your help in advance.

Well between the wheel wells is about 3.5' - about 4.75' above them. And with the gate up the shortbed has about 5 feet....

I have a long bed... it came in handy when moving a full size bed. The 73.5" length of the bed was a perfect mattresses. Left the tailgate up and leaned them to one side.
The down side is that extra foot of length meant that we couldn't put the truck in our little garage:( . Off by 2 inches. Although, even if we had the short bed there wouldn't be enough room for us to walk past the truck once it was parked in there...

Things to consider when getting the longbed:

    1. As mentioned above, garage length.
    2. Will you be driving more in the suburbs or the downtown area, where
    parking might be a pain?
    3. Intermediate to extreme off-roading? The shorter wheelbase has an
advantage. Although lifts can fix this.

Shortbed owners can probably mention other advantages...

I have the 73.5" bed. IMO, there are 2 bed configs, standard and short. If you look at it this way, you can argue that you're really not getting a longer bed, just a bigger cab.

EVERYTHING THAT I CAN AFFORD ! ESPECIALLY IF IT MAKES IT RUN BETTER &/or FASTER, STOP QUICKER AS WELL AS LOOKING GOOD @ THE SAME TIME.
I got a standard (6ft) bed because of the added wheelbase length.
I tried both and the ride was better (JMHO) on the DC Long Bed.

Here's the lift height I'm going for as soon as we can afford a different family vehicle. I think the DC-LB looks awesome...

I don't know, and I'm afraid that if I pm the poster, I'm going to be sucked into buying the kit right away.

You'll probably get it before I do. My wife wants a Sequoia and I can't see us getting one this year, or next.

    Unfortunatly I don't think so...
My wife is pregnant and right now the truck is the perfect height to just slide into the seat and lean in to strap our son in the car seat.
Besides that family friendly height the budget can't afford any gifts for the truck for a while and the first gift will be the cover over the bed.

Even if I had gotten a double cab, I would have gone with the long bed. I have just used the junk out of it, and, sometimes, it isn't even enough.

I went with the long bed too...It is a bit harder to park (I'm still not used to the length yet) but am able to fit a powered paraglider, with a quad behind it. Just depends what you need it for and what you actually use it for...

That sounds like an awesome setup. I used to see paragliders all the time in the Four Corners area. That looks like a ton of fun. I am a bit confused on how one learns it without hands on training.

What kind of quad do you have? I am looking into getting one when I move to San Antonio (provided my father-in-law doesn't give my wife back her old one.)

BTW - Post picks! That setup sounds like it would look awesome. :D

I also went for the regular bed. I just bought the truck and I've been itching for something big to haul. The only things so far are a few 6 foot ladders for Mardi Gras.

Yes, it is more difficult to park, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I went from a 94 Continental to the 07 DC regular(6') bed.

I've got the extra cab with the standard bed. I'd never get a short bed... just seems like you'd be limiting yourself on what you can haul. Even if you're not usually putting things back there, I think it's better to be safe than sorry.
    Long bed all the way!
