just woundering if anyone out thier has put one of these together. i started getting somethings together, you never know thses days. got to be prepared

 

wtf is a bugout bag? probably nothing to do with 2nd gen tacomas.........

I have a hurricane kit for my wife and birds, and one for myself, my son, and the dogs. I'm sure it'll turn into a earthquake kit or a blizzard kit or whatever for where I go next. I've got enuf of the essentials to last a few weeks alone and unafraid.

a bug out bag is a brand of bags that they issue to the military and you can buy.
basically what your talking about is just putting together like a bail out bag in case of a emergency.

 

You're WAY better off building your own. You can get cheap prices on individual stuff, and it's more personalized than a pre-made kit.

 

This...I've seen some of the gear in that Bill Burke approved kit and I'd feel more comfortable whittling my own gear out of a stick...
Buying piece for piece what you need for a given area is the way to go.

Like I said-Right now hurricanes is the issue for me...So I have some tarps, extra gas, water, and food that I don't need any electricity to cook. Also got my heavy weight foul weather gear, ammo, and tools nearby it.

Blizzard kit would probably include some extra sleeping bags and clothing. Earthquake kit would probably look a lot like my hurricane kit. My kit includes a little bit of extra med supplies cause I know a little of "advanced" first aid stuff...An EMT should probably keep a crash bag....etc etc etc.

Buying a prepacked kit will leave you wanting something when the time comes imho.

I also highly reccomend the SA M6 Scout rifle, it is an excellent little weapon.

So far, i'm seeing general survival gear and first aid stuff. Not that it's a bad thing, and alot of it are essentials for a SHTF situation. HIGHLY recommend electrolyte tabs. More so than listed above. As an avid mountain biker and hiker, these can REALLY help if you're stuck anywhere on-foot.

I'd like to amend the following based on my locale and in addition to what's above (what i've got prepared):

QTY 1 - A plan! There's a fine line between paranoia and preparedness. Err on the side of caution. Discuss with friends that don't think you're a psycho. The others? Well, bummer.
QTY 3 - 1911 .45 pistols (not efficient to field repair in any situation)
QTY 1 - AR15, 16" barrel (1:7 twist,) red dot or iron sights (or both)
QTY 1 - M1A Loaded/Squad Scout, 4-14x variable optics, stock of choice (sage/mcmillan/troy)
QTY 1 - Remington 700, scope you're used to, steady hands
QTY 2 - shotguns . . . Mossy 500A and Saiga 12
QTY ? - 9mm/.45 pistols, anything else, really
QTY ? - ammo, ammo, ammo!

I have more of a bug-out box than anything, and it's not light-weight stuff.

Just remember, when SHTF, someone, not far from where you are, is going to want what you have. It's your right, and your decision, to help those in need. Not those that want.

Last but not least . . . . ! A second vehicle. A 4-seater sandrail in my area is more than enough to haul everything listed above. Not that I doubt my practically-new Tacoma, but you can never be too safe. Ever

 

living on an island makes a "bug out bag" pretty easy. Nowhere to go. If we had to evacuate, it would be on a plane with nothing but the clothes on our back. SO.. yea. I've uploaded all the family photos to an online storage server and mailed a copy of my most recent backup to a relative. Beyond that, it can all burn if need be.

 

I was watching a show last night on Nat Geo about people who prepare for the end of the world. They all had bug out bags. I did a search here on the site and found this thread. If I remember right their was another one that was really extensive about what people fell should be a must in a bug out bag.(i know that it should be tailored to each individuals needs/surroundings/etc) Anyone remember that thread. It was quite a few pages.

i saw that show "doomsday preppers" show last nite. people were storing food for 22 ppl to last 6 weeks or something like that. and they would prepare everyday. ridiculous

 

Yes it was a little extreme/ I thought it was 26 people 3 yrs?

 

I could've sworn it was like 22 people for 15 weeks OR 2 people for 20 years. Either way that was a $*** ton of food.
