Just got a truck, I need some tips on what to do with it

Hi everyone, I just bought a truck today (I can pick it up friday, I don't know how I'll wait). I've been looking for a 4x4 manual double cab truck for about 6 months or so. I've been reading here a bit but I didn't want to jinks myself by joining the forum before getting a truck. I made that mistake by joining a frontier forum when I saw a frontier up for sale (glad that didn't work out and waited for a tacoma though).

I plan on using the truck just as a daily driver and some moderate off roading (I wanted the TRD off road but because I wanted manual and double cab it just never pops up so I went with the sport when it popped up for a good price)

Anyways, I bought a 2005 Tacoma TRD sport Double Cab, Manual, 4x4, I'm VERY pumped but am a totally rookie with car stuff, so I'm enlisting your help, what should I do to make my truck awesome? On my list of things to buy so far is:
Stubby Antenna
Ready Ramp
Pioneer IC-X940BT (when it comes out) and a license plate frame camera
off road lights (not sure which ones, any recommendations?)
I'd like to figure out how to mod it so I can use the truck bed outlet when the truck is off or in gear or something.

What else do I need in your opinions?


Also, a few questions:
When in 4 wheel low, does it constantly beep? When I test drove it (I'm not really sure how to test 4x4) it was beeping while I had it in 4 low.
At what speeds can I switch to 4hi and 4low? I just came to a 100% stop to test it but can't you shift into 4hi at 45?

 

If it comes with the book, look up how to switch to 4lo, if it beeps that means it is not synced, and you must take it out of that mode, move the truck a bit and try again. Don't drive it in 4x4 mode on pavement. Welcome to TW, take a look through the forums, you can finds tons of ideas here to do mods on these trucks, try clicking on 'mods and tutorials' at the top of the homepage. Try putting things you are wondering about into the search bar, there is a very good chance that almost anything you can think of has also been done or at least discussed here before.

Hey, just joined the forums as well. The 4L is beeping due to it trying to engage 4L. The truck needs to be under 2 MPH or a complete stop with the shifter in N. This is for manual transmission. Automatic needs to be at a complete stop with shifter in N.

Once the beeping has stopped and the 4 wheel drive indicator has stopped flashing and is steady, you are in 4L.

You need to engage 4hi then shift to 4lo.
But don't do this on dry pavement.

Welcome to TW new member! The truck should not beep in 4lo. This is how you are supposed to engage it, park on a flat surface so your truck wont roll, keep the wheels straight, put the tranny in neutral and press the clutch all the way to the floor and turn it to 4lo and wait for the light to stop blinking, once it does, release the clutch, if you did it right it won't beep and you are good to go! I for one would not shift into 4lo while the truck is moving.

 

Fill up the back and drive it around! Be sure to get some mud on it once in a while too. Occasionally, back into something so you have some pictures and a story to tell! LOL! And enjoy!

 

Also I forgot to mention do not use your brakes when applying 4lo, the wheels are not supposed to be bound up.
