No money, all went to truck...
This is probably the best advice to this question that appears over and over.

Also don't mod at all. Seems like stock truck has best MPGs.

You're exactly right.....driving like a grandma will get you the best mpg and keeping it stock. Only thing i have done is put a K&N air filter in mine I picked up abt 0.5-1 mpg and as for tires staying inflated that is a great thing too. My tires have nitrogen in them from factory so mine should stay the same and if they changed i couldn't put air in them lol

Air is 78% nitrogen, no worries there with mixing anything

I've been driving with a egg under my foot for over a week now. I am getting 50 km's more from full to half a tank then what I was before. I am averaging around 440 per tank, driving without the egg under my foot. I am hoping with me doing this I should be able to do 500 kms in city. I will let you know.

    $600?

That's 130 gallons of gas at 2/27/12 SoCal prices.
130 gallons will carry my Taco over 3000 miles.

It would have to be a pretty impressive MPG improvement to pay for itself.
If I were getting 20mpg and it improved it to 25mpg, that's an improvement of only 75 miles on a typical 15 gallon refueling stop.
I get gas once a week, so figure I'm saving about 3 gallons a week... 130 divided by 3 is 43 weeks.

It would take a year to pay for the exhaust IF and only if it gave me an extra 5mpg.... and it won't.
2 years to pay for it if it saved 2.5mpg.... and it won't ;)

    They won't.

    Tires leak.

    Temperature changes also change pressure.
Check your pressure on a 90 degree day, and on a 30 degree night.
Pressure will be lower in the colder temperature, whether it's "air" or nitrogen.

Nitrogen inflation is a scam. There's no reason NOT to use it if it's included for free (and you aren't paying more for the tires)...
But if it's not free, there's also no reason to do it.

Ozone and UV are the primary causes of tire degradation, and those come from the outside.

Hilarious! I've seen about 10 threads about gas mileage lately. Folks, I know it sucks that gas is getting more expensive (or, in reality, our currency is devalued into the toilet), but sounds like most people are doing what they can to reduce aggressive driving, etc.

We drive trucks and we will pay the price--not much to do about it except changing driving habits/frequency. Unfortunately, and according to plan, the only way to get better mileage is to buy a more fuel efficient vehicle--our government wants you and I to buy an insanely overpriced and overrated Chevy Volt, or other hybrid electric. This of course makes no sense in the short term because you will likely lose money on your truck in a trade, and the subsequent loss cannot be made up without a significant amount of time getting better mileage in another vehicle. Screw 'em. I'll drive my truck, albeit less frequently if eventually necessary.

Just my .02. Hope everyone can find away to somehow save themselves some fuel $ during this period. Unfortunately, it's going to get worse before it gets better.

You're right! Haha. Well, one can only hope. Just trying to stay positive, especially when I have to fill up my Tundra tomorrow morning. Ugh.

MythBusters did an episode where they covered a car in modeling clay, dimpled the clay like a golf, ball and got significantly better mileage, even with the added weight of the clay. If auto manufacturer's would dimple their sheet metal like a golf ball it would look weird but give the car greater mileage.

Quite true, my Dad has a '50 Desoto that was stored in a dark corner of a barn for decades and the original tires are still good. However, at the end of last summer I left a pair of rubber hip boots where the sun always shone on them and this winter when I went to move them they fell apart. If you have an older set of tires look at the outside sidewall versus the inside -- I bet you'll see more cracks on the outside where the sunlight gets to it.

Nitrogen is used in aircraft and racing tires mainly because it's very dry and doesn't support combustion. Passenger cards really don't require it. If you use your truck as a 4v4 you probably should be changing your air pressure anyway depending on the trail conditions.
