will your skids offer any coverage on the alignment bolts/cam tabs?

 

I noticed after a lot of off roading over a few years, that my truck's flex in the front, wasn't flexing like it should. I could actually put a jack underneath the LCA, of the driver side, and jack up the truck. Without the suspension giving any. I though that was very strange. Ended up trying to do some preventive maintenance on the front end, by removing hardware and cleaning it. Both driver side camber bolts were seized in place, in the sleeves of the LCA. So the only flex was a very slight bit from the bushing between the sleeve and the LCA. Took a good six hours of messing with it to get them out! Crazy how that was stuck like that.

Have you, or anyone you know, ever had to deal with, or noticed anything like that?

 

My adjustment cams are currently seized. I hope I can get them lose enough to get the alignment back in to spec.

So you took the whole LCA off?

Once I get the alignment in spec, I need to figure out a way of prevent this from happening again.

 

Once I removed mine, I sanded down all of the build up on the bolts. Then added a layer of bearing grease. Worked flawlessly after that. Getting them out was the trick though....

I would attribute mine being seized, due to all of the muddy water puddles that i crossed. I know that stuff took out a few idler bearings. That fine silt just gets everywhere. :/

The TC LCA skids kinda suck IMO. They are very heavy and the bolts, and nuts they supply are a joke. IMO the best all around LCA skid is this http://www.expeditionr.com/2011/03/10/bulletproof-ricochet-lca-skids-for-the-fj-cruiser/

They are light and the hardware is much better then TC's + they are taller so they keep the top of the LCA cleaner if your in the mud/sand/snow.

Last time I had my TC skids and LCA's off my LCA's were 100% full of sand because the TC skids trapped it in there. This spring I will mod them so I don't have an extra 20# of shit rusting them out from the inside.

Just cut them off in 20 minutes and throw in a new bolt. Very easy to do witha cut off wheel. Do not try a sawzall...youll waste your time.

Grease them periodically. I think I have a thread on LCA rebuilds.

 

and because Toyota puts stickers on them when they should be 100% clean

If cutting them was an option I would have. Seriously. You cannoth though. Unless you just cut the ends off. They are completely enclosed in the LCAs. They had to be pressed out.

 

Yeah but Made from 3/16" Aluminum I don't see those taking on too many rocks. The B.A.M.F LCA skids will be 3/16th" plate steel and 1/4" for the heavy duty version. I do like the inset bolts of that skid.

 

I actually used a few different sized sockets and bolts/washers, and box ends of of wrenches, to be able to create a press to push them out. Enough to where I could them hit them out with a hammer.
I did remove the shocks and tie the steering knuckles out of the way so I could get in there.

It was a real pita. PB blast could only get in so far....cleaned really well then greased like i mentioned earlier. I cannot imagine how much it would have cost to have some shop remove them. Might have been cheap, might have been really expensive.

If your bouncing a 2nd gen's LCA's off rocks that 3/16" aluminum is not enough protection you will have many other issues to address. The LCA skid is so you don't get stuck on rock points not to bash against them...IMO.

Example: I can bend my LCA frame mounts by hand.

 

I totally agree I myself would not run aluminum skids nor make any (but I play in the rocks) 3/16th steel is not that heavy on that small of a skid. I will be coming out with a LCA skid real soon made from 3/16 steel with the same coverage as the aluminum ones pictured.

can definitely tell a difference in the ride...taking drainage dips and speed bumps you can definitely notice the softer bump..

still need to get a good wheeling trip in where i can spend some time flexing everything out and see how it effects my front stuff
