2012 rear leaf update

I sent pics to my service head and then took truck to dealer. Taking it back tomorrow so they can check it out with a "load", which will consist of several employees in the bed. They will look at spring compression and bed sag and then pass their findings on to the regional guy.
Truck definately needs the stouter springs, when I drive on my unimproved roads upstate with any load it bottoms out.

you have to tell them "it has a harsh ride under a heavy load" then they will do the TSB springs.....thats what a service manager told me.. I got mine done

 

I had it done on a 09 I owned previosly but this is a 2012 and not eligible according to my dealer.

File a complaint with the BBB and FTC online alleging false advertising. These things can't "safely" carry their advertised payloads without the tsb springs. It's debatable after the tsb springs but that's another story. It takes 5 minutes and the FTC (federal trade commission) notifies them that a complaint has been filed. That was enough to get their attention in my case, before '09s were added to the tsb. I never specifically said "harsh" anything and they never admitted anything was wrong, they said they were doing it for "customer satisfaction." When have you ever heard of a dealership picking up a tab they didn't have to just to make some Joe Shmoe happy?

My 2012 Offroad TRD comes with 3 leafs

 

My 2012 4x4 SR5 looks like the pic..3 main leafs then that short one..guess that means I have 4?

 

on '12's TRD Off-roads have the 3 leaf...... the sports have 4 leaf pack

 

That's true, AFAIK.

I have a 12 DCSB 4x4 TRD OR and it has 3 leafs, with no load the leafs are flattened out. I havent loaded it down though. I also dont notice any "rake" in the stance of my truck, it sits perfectly level with no load. I would prefer it to have an inch or two rake, so that when loaded it will still sit level...

I took a look at a 12 DCSB SR5 and it had 4 leafs, so... Why would they do it on the SR5 and TRD Sport but no the TRD OR?

 

My 2012 TRD Off-Road double cab also came with a three (3) leaf pack.

 

i dont know why only the OR have 3 leafs, maybe cuz its supposed to be "off-road" for a smoother ride i really dont know, but its stupid

 

I suspect it's to reduce excess bounce in the lower weight rear of the vehicle during the increased off-road/cross-country activities expected of the TRD Off-Road.

 

Here is my old truck, after the TSB, with 1000# of wood pellets in the bed. Should have kept it, went to a Tundra (POS) and back to my '12 TRDOR.

That's interesting that the Off Road would have three leafs and the Sport would have four. Has anyone checked the thickness and length of the leafs? Are they the same in the Sport vs the Off Road?

I have an '06, which bottoms out occasionally with only a topper and a couple of hundred pounds of gear in it. I didn't know of the TSB until my warranty was nearly up and even then wasn't sure about getting it done. Now, with some age on the springs I wish I'd had it done and am thinking about installing some spring helpers.

One reason that I would consider trading in for a '12 would be for the four-spring pack but if the Off Road models don't come with it there is less incentive to do so.

@Blueridge: Why didn't you like the Tundra compared to the Tacoma?
