Has anyone figured out the process for determining ATF temperature on a 2WD 2nd gen Tacoma? Also, what and where is the "combination meter"?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

The "Combination Meter" is what the manufacturers use to refer to the instrument cluster in wiring diagrams.
They don't generally break down the actual detail wiring within the cluster... they just show the gauges and lamps with two wires going to the mysterious gray box called "combination meter"

How about the 2009? I have got the manual for the A750E - Automatic Transmission Fluid, but the 2WD does not look the same. There is no "AT TEMP" light on the instrument cluster. Any ideas on where to go next?

    Thanks.

Manual says that the AT TEMP light is not on the 2WD. I guess I need to go to a dealer and see if they will tell me how they do it.

Spoke to service guys at dealer. The V6 2WD's do not have the AT TEMP light installed.

Do you or do you not have a dipstick?

The service guys at the dealer will tell the owner of a 2.7 reg cab that it is impossible to install the factory cruise control without a new ECU, and that installation of intermittent wipers will require a new control board and motor.

I did both to my truck after work this week.
Each mod took a total of 15 minutes, total cost for parts was $250 shipped. I did both mods sitting in the driver's seat with nothing more than a Gerber multi-tool.

Just follow the diagnostic procedure outlined in the other thread for the 5spd V6... I'll bet you $10 that it works.

You would lose the $10, I have attempted several times. However, Scanguage II with version 4.0 and higher reads the transmission fluid temperature for 2nd Gen Tacomas (and other Toyota models, generally built after 2005). Use the XGauge feature and the codes on their website and it works.

    Thanks for the help.

According to some Pre Runner owners, the procedure will still work if performed correctly.

This ( bolded ) seems odd to me as I have a 2012 PreRunner SR5, 2.7L engine, 4 speed automatic and I have the AT Temp LED in the dash and a transmission dipstick.

Has the temp light ever come on?

The clusters are all the same. Pretty sure mine has the space for the AT Temp light, but it's never come on and does not come on during the "bootup" lamp check period.

Yes. When I turn on the ignition ( before starting the engine ) it comes on with all the other indicator lights " bootup". I checked it again when I was heading off to work. Other than that it has never come on. I also have a dipstick for checking the fluid level and adding if needed.

My '07 PR AT V6 does NOT have an AT temp light. This is odd as it seems it's hit and miss. Could it be the Towing package vehicles don't have it?
