My CB Install

I wanted a CB for when I go wheeling and just to play around with, but as yall know there aren't alot of options for mounting a cb in the Taco. I came across a Cobra 29 for $35 and got my inspiration from db (http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/audio-video/49635-cb-radio-cobra-29-mod-mount-center-console.html). I got my radio in the mail and immediately began diving into the massive amounts of soldering.





And 10 hours, and 126 solders later, I was finished moving the controls.



Now was time for the faceplate. I made a cardboard template and cut the face plate out of 1/8" sheet metal.



I got some L brackets and alen screws and mounted up the faceplate into the cubby in front of the shifter.





I proceeded to mount and run the wires under the center console back in the truck.



(I'm not gonna lie, kinda felt weird cutting such a nice truck haha).

I ran my coax cable out under the drivers seat and to the bed where it was attached to a home made bracket I made using angle aluminum and grounded it. I have a 4' Firestik.



After it was all buttoned up it actually works

Looks clean. Kudos to you for digging through that spaghetti nest of wires, nice and tidy results.

 

Yeah its really not too too bad if you just go one wire at a time. About half way through the spaghetti starts to form lol

 

The speaker on the model 29 is now in the dash or under the seat? Either way can you hear sound coming thru??

 

I was wondering the same thing. I didn't see an external speaker anywhere. Nice job on the install though.

Now you need a Telex noise cancelling mic, reverb, and echo. Thats what i had when i was truck driving. Tuned mine up so much it would light up a floresent light bulb when you held close to the antenna.

 

?yep, how can you hear it? the speakers in them there radios are hard to hear at best. i know, my last rig i mounted a uniden cb over the rearview mirror.

 

Nice work. Cobra 29 is a good choice. Went with a 25 myself.

Point being: Cobra - good radios.

 

Yeah agreed. Great radios for the money.

 

I've only tested it with the truck not running, so I'm not sure how loud it will be running down the road. If it isnt loud enough, I can add a speaker somewhere. Thanks for the positive feedback

 

I bought the radio used and when I opened it up it had an echo limiter already installed and it had been peaked and tuned so I should be good to go

 

I added an external speaker today ( it came with the radio so I figured why not)
